Even though it was a beautiful sunny day I remember hoping it would rain – just so I could see them close the Dome. It didn't rain, but lucky for us, they closed the roof at the end of the game. Everyone stuck around to watch. So many Jays fans like me have similar memories. So many people were upset and disappointed when Rogers Media changed the SkyDome’s name to the Rogers Centre in 2005, after they bought the stadium and the Blue Jays franchise. Why did they have to change it? What was wrong with a name that we loved and that symbolized important moments in our city’s history? The name SkyDome was chosen in 1987, after tens of thousands of people from across Ontario submitted ideas as part of a “name the stadium” contest. We were proud of our new one-of-a kind stadium. It put Toronto on the map, and we felt like it was truly our stadium, because we helped name it. The opening of the SkyDome marked the beginning of an exciting time for our city.
