    Is that what it is? People think September doesn't count towards service time? I'm not trying to be condescending but if this is the belief held in this thread, than a lot of it makes much more sense. So, in that case, if someone didn't know that September isn't just a free tryout period, does that change your views at all?

    Ok, so I'm not completely crazy. I might seem like a dickhead in this thread because I can honestly not understand the logic being employed here for the life of me. There's also the case of Bird getting injured, Drury getting injured and Neil Walker (the guy they signed to play 2B) playing like poop. This wasn't some masterful tactic by Cashman, Torres is up by necessity and I'd guess he probably won't be up all year.

    If they aren't bringing him up now for a chance at being competitive, then I'd rather he didn't play in September. I don't understand how the people so concerned about service time want Vlad to be a September call up when the Jays are out of it. Just doesn't compute.

    If he's the starting 3B in 2019, we lose that extra year lol. At this point, I have no idea what your position is. First, it was "don't try to make the wild card because we'd just face Severino/Sale" (which would be the same case next year) then it's "wasting millions by bringing up Vlad now" when your suggestion would result in him being granted FA at the same time. What are you even arguing?

    So, again, I ask: are the Yankees or Red Sox going to drop off next year? If not, by your logic, isn't bringing up Vlad next year also a waste? What about the year after? So just keep him down until the Yankees and Red Sox aren't as good anymore in 5-10 years?

    Oh my bad, didn't realize we've switched to having ERA as the only pitching category.

    Or the logic of waiting until we are out of it to start his service clock, and then let him become a super 2. I mean, yeah, f*** it, I don't want to watch playoff baseball this year. BTS, we really need to get out of our short term casual fan mindset. Vlad might literally explode if we aren't 100% sure of his position on the field going forward.

    I don't understand the people in this thread at all. The gist of what I'm getting is "don't bring up Vlad to improve the team now, when the team is pretty competitive and there's a black hole at DH because we can get an extra year when we may or may not be competitive in 6 years." I really can't wrap my head around it.

    If the Epstein example was about Bryant, that doesn't really apply because he brought him up in a year when the Cubs weren't supposed to contend at around this time. The Jays calling up Vlad now would mirror the Bryant situation fairly well. Cashman just brought up young Gleyber Torres. Last year, Judge broke camp with the team, so he didn't manipulate his service time at all. AA called up Acuna, even while scuffling, and look at the Braves now.

    If Max keeps going like this for a few more years, he's getting into HOF territory.

    We could win it without Donaldson too, but we have a much better chance with him than without him. Btw, we are going to be playing for the second wild card for quite awhile. Maybe we should just leave Vlad down there until he's 25.

    I agree with guys like Bob and Gruber. No point in bringing up Vlad, who is crushing the minors, where he'd not only instantly improve the offense in a year where we can contend, but also give JD lots of days at DH to keep him fresh. I think it's better to just leave him to destroy the minors all season long, call him up in September, and then deal with tons of controversy and negative press by openly manipulating his service time before ultimately bringing him up for good after Donaldson and Happ are already gone. I mean, why try to compete this season? Something something service time amirite?

    I honestly can't believe how bad these instant replay people are. It's an embarrassment. I mean, the ball was in Morales's glove and you could see Smith's foot still in the air. I'm watching the Rays feed and both of them thought he was clearly out.
