  1. Don't they need a speedy OF? You need someone who can play LF or CF. Gose can be a late inning replacement for Melky.
  2. That's quite impressive by Yan Gomes. I liked him. He was the first Brazilian in the MLB. He had some pop in his bat.
  3. Why can't they DH Melky? I suppose they need Lind at DH. It's sad that we have a DH who can't hit LHP & can only play 1B
  4. OK, but Syndergaard is 2 years away from the MLB. D'Arnaud could have played for the Jays in 2013, if he wasn't hurt.
  5. This a potential blind spot with AA. He acquired 2 players with All Star potential. It seemed logical at the time that Johnson would be motivated to have a great 2013, so he could get a long term contract. Now he's out till June. He pitched poorly in April anyway. Reyes is an All Star but takes a chance at stealing a base when the team is up 4 runs. Now he's gone till July. AA gets a "discount" because the players have a history of getting injured.
  6. I would love to have an organizational audit done of the Blue Jays training, scouting, development program from someone who had experience building a team. How is it that the Tampa Bay Rays once again have a strong team with David Price on the DL, virtually no offence etc... Escobar was run out of town because of a eye patch, that no one noticed, even his supposed babysitter, Omar Visquel. It drives me nuts that AA always has a couple of roster spots open for "clubhouse leaders" who can't perform on the field, yet we still have players making dumb mistakes. Why can't Derosa tell Jose Bautista to stop chirping at every umpire? Perhaps Bautista would just laugh at Derosa, but if you are going to get "clubhouse leaders" then make sure they have enough credibility to sort out players who make dumb mistakes.
  7. AA must have believed that getting Dickey from the Mets, who have financial issues, with 1 year already signed for 2013 at $5 million , was a good deal. Dickey was a good upgrade on paper over Alvarez or Carlos Villenueva.
  8. I agree with you but I distinctly recall that the fans were demanding that JPA get more playing time in 2010. Cito said that he wanted to ensure that John Buck get 20 HR's in 2010 so he could get a good contract in 2011 to feed his family. The fans jumped all over Cito for playing the "veterin" John Buck . After the season ended, AA admitted that he had promised John Buck regular playing time , so it wasn't Cito's fault but AA that made the commitment to Buck when he signed him as a free agent for 2010. Did AA make a promise to Blanco or Dickey that Blanco would be his regular catcher in 20103 to get Dickey to sign an extension? You have to remember that the Jays have had a hard time getting free agents to sign here. Perhaps AA has to make all sorts of accomodations to Dickey or Blanco to get them to play in Toronto.
  9. Hayhurst made a similar point on baseball central on Friday. He said the Jays bring up their prospects too early . He mentioned Hutchison as a case study. Hayhurst or Blair said that the Orioles are excellent at bringing up their prospects with hot hands. He said AA should bring up Negrych & or Thole while they are hot. I think Rogers has realized the advantages of having a competitive team on paper, so are willing to let AA spend 125 million per year for the next couple of years. So far, this year is a mess, but hopefully the team will recover for 2014.
  10. Fair point My expectations of the new players have been lowered so much since April 2nd, that anyone who stays off the DL gets a passing grade. Melky is an upgrade over any LF the Jays have had in the past few years. Dickey is able to stay off the DL & has pitched a few good games. I saw him pitch at the home opener. I blame JPA for his poor performance at the opener. I went to the game he pitched against the Mariners. That was a horrible pitching performance but the team didn't even know how many outs there were in the 5th or 6th inning. Dickey & Melky have been the two best performers of the new players. Jose Reyes had a great 10 games, but his injury was very frustrating
  11. Perhaps AA made a promise to Blanco that he wouldn't cut him this year? Didn't he make a similar deal with John Buck in 2010?
  12. Sad but probably true. Converting a former short stop to pitcher hasn't worked out so far. Will he be back after the all star break?
  13. Do you have a spreadsheet or list of the WAR's differences ? So, it's Melky +Reyes+Izturis+Bonifacio+Dickey +Josh Johnson+ Blanco +Buerhle as WAR to the Jays & subtract Escobar,Johnson,Mathis , Hecheverria to other teams. On paper it should be a virtually guaranteed 8-10 WAR for the Jays.
  14. Melky & Dickey have been good. Reyes could be excellent when he comes back.
  15. LOL! He's being compared to those Justin Trudeau ads that run on the Jays games. AA was great at reducing payroll & getting other teams to take Jays payroll off Rogers books.
  16. This is a very interesting issue. It's just not Hill & Johnson, but what about Alex Rios,? Now, if Rios had stayed, the Jays would not have given Bautista a chance to play every day in August-September 2009. We know how that turned out. Aaron Hill's was comeback player of the year in 2009 yet regressed in 2010 & 2011. He had an excellent 2012 in Arizona. What I find shocking is that Wells ,Overbay & Jayson Nix are productive players for the Yankees. I ddoubt AA gets fired till the end of 2015 when most of the team's contracts expire.
  17. Dustin had another strong outing last night. I hope AA brings him up soon. The Jays need all the bullpen help they can get. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130518&content_id=47956450&fext=.jsp&vkey=recap&sid=t422
  18. Agreed. 2010 was also fun to watch at times. Bautista 54 HR's. The team won 85 games. I think the problem is that the Jays sold hope with exciting new prospects coming up through the farm system from 2010-2012. Fans were excited about Deabek,Lawrie,Hutchison, Snider, TDArnaud etc. Now the farm system is depleted & the current roster of "stars" has mostly underperformed. I still support the trades which were designed to move the team to a "win now-2015." It was necessary for Rogers to show the fans that they were serious about competing in the AL East. I think the team can regroup & hopefully compete in 2014 . I would like a full review of the training staff because there sees to be too many injuries on this team particularly to the pitching staff.
  19. You make some valid points. AA never seems to build a strong bench. Derosa has had a few games but I don't think he & Blanco are the best bench options. bringing up Thole would help out. Lind has hit well this year against RHP, but the Jays need a DH who can play everyday & be used in the OF from time to time. I am worried that Melky could go on the DL. Who would have thought that Izturis would be a downgrade on Kelly Johnson? JPA has to be moved out of the cleanout spot
  20. Are you comparing opening day roster 2012 to 2013? Are you looking at the Jays roster in early October 2012 vs the team we have now? I think if Reyes had been healthy, the overall WAR would be positive. Escobar & Kelly Johnson are probably doing better than Izturis & Bonifacio.
  21. I like him as an analyst. He has a different view than Wilner or Zaun. He likes to explain advanced stats to the audience. I enjoy reading his books. He likes mixing it up with Jeff Blair. I could see him & Wilner taking over the broadcast once Jerry retires. I don't want Jerry to retire because he's excellent. I wish Ashby had stayed.
  22. It's sad that Romero 's trade value had diminished to being virtually worthless. It's almost unheard of.
  23. Snider did hit 14HR one year in 80 games with the Jays. I won't forget his 2 HR's at Twins stadium in early April 2009 or 2010. Jays gave Corey Patterson & Fred Lewis more playing time than their top prospects Snider.
  24. I remember that Wilnerism. Wilner was wrong about that.
  25. This was a marginal improvement from his last AAA start, but it's still pretty bad.
