  1. If you'd like, we could start talking about spherical Bessel functions.
  2. Which is funny, as I think I'm not terribly great at math, and most of my friends are on a completely other level from what I know.
  3. This looks like one of Gibbons' patented day-game-after-night-game lineups.
  4. I have a couple friends, who now live elsewhere, with whom I chat occasionally, but other than that, I have very little need for it.
  5. That's very true. I find myself using it less and less as time goes by.
  6. Just to be a pedantic bastard, in math, ( ) are parentheses, [ ] are square brackets. Both of these sets are types of brackets.
  7. Where the mnemonic itself is the answer to a question? That seems like a fairly worthless bit of trivia.
  8. I'm pretty sure I learnt it PEMDAS/PEDMAS, but honestly, I don't even think about it anymore, as order of operations is second nature to me at this point in my life.
  9. While parentheses are just one subset of the set of brackets, the order of operations mnemonic is often taught at a very low level, with only one set of brackets (typically parentheses) in the expression. I don't see why it's an issue that the term "parentheses" is used.

  11. That's not necessarily a good thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_interval
  12. I had just come back from the bathroom to see Izturis hit that homerun. If I hadn't just taken a dump, I think I would have s*** my pants from jumping up and down.
  13. Quite true, which is why I put the disclaimer of a "quick number." I'll admit very little thought or research went into my post.
  14. If companies block URLs with messageboard in them, then I would imagine they would also block URLs with forum(s) as well, which the old board had. Were people blocked there?
  15. I think Melky goes yard. First inning jack!
  16. The county passed a sales tax to fund the renovations here because David Glass is a cheap sonofabitch, and if I recall correctly, there were veiled threats of moving the team if we didn't fund the renovations.
  17. Kauffman is a gorgeous park, and they just spent $250 million to renovate it four years ago.
  18. Just to throw out a quick number, I looked at what his average would be if his BABIP had been .333 so far this season, as it was in AAA last year. Since BABIP = (H - HR) / (AB - K - HR + SF), we can solve for hits and plug in some numbers: H = BABIP (AB - K - HR + SF) + HR = 0.333 (86 - 16 - 1 + 1) + 1 = 24.31. This would give him a BA of ~0.283.
  19. I think the fans here, aside from the true die hards, are waiting to see if the Royals are the real thing. They've dealt with an absolute s*** owner and a pretty bad team for so long now that they're understandably skeptical. If the Royals are still doing well by the end of the month, and into June, I could see attendance increasing significantly. Also, if I recall from my high school days, schools don't get out until near the end of May, so I expect that more families will be bringing their kids to the game once that happens. We've also had some pretty uncharacteristically cold weather for this late into the year, so that could also be contributing to the lower attendance.
  20. The games appear to go back to 2009, but I think the game you're thinking about is from 2007.
  21. While I could see them getting a team at some point, I wonder if they could be the Expos again. I believe the Nationals own the rights to the name and all the copyright stuff.
  22. I think we can handle a trickle. But the ban hammer really needs to drop once we start seeing threads like this:
