  1. I don't feel like studying for my final today, so I went and looked up his hit locations for 1992 through 1998. I used BR and they have the stats for balls pulled, hit up the middle, and to the opposite field, as well as "Unknown Loc." I ignored the last one and just used the first three. I used the ABs for each of the three classifications, assuming that means a ball was put in play in that direction, and for each location, took the ratio of ABs in that direction to total ABs in all three directions (again ignoring the unknown location). This is the top plot. I then calculated his BA in the three directions. This is the bottom plot. I also plotted his overall BA for the season. http://s23.postimg.org/a74zhbj57/Olerud.jpg
  2. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that Reyes' injury was not related to him being injury-prone. It was a fluke accident that could have happened to anyone.
  3. In the case of Reyes, no it's most definitely not his fault.
  4. Where the actual f*** are these pitches missing? http://s21.postimg.org/tmzqp6o2v/zone.jpg
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw the 10/18 against lefties this year.
  6. That first pitch was perfect. How the hell was that a ball?
  7. To be fair, some of those walks were due to a postage stamp sized strike zone.
  8. He just missed it. I think it's time for DeRosa to hit one out.
  9. It looked good on gameday, and with the high camera angle at Tropicana, balls tend to look lower than they are.
  10. Looks like the first and fourth pitch should have been strikes. http://s11.postimg.org/685j35gk3/zone.jpg
  11. Dickey vs. Longoria Price vs. Rasmus http://s10.postimg.org/sim4s4c2h/zone2.jpg
  12. Oh hell, I guess I'll pick DeRosa.
  13. We obviously don't know what exactly happened when they were reviewing it, but what are your thoughts on assigning blame in these two possible scenarios? 1) All three umpires missed the ball hitting the railing in the replay. Should all three umpires be at fault, or just the crew chief? 2) One or two of the other umpires saw it correctly in the replay, then Hernandez overruled them. Same question.
  14. Wow...just wow. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a while. This "crazy stuff" that's done isn't a direct result of people using their brains. It's typically a result of greed, fear, or mental illness. If anything, we should be thinking even harder, and using our brains more. Back on topic, I don't think we should try to stretch out Cecil. That's been done before and he wasn't terribly great at it. I think Loup might be a decent option. He's pitched three innings in one game before, as you mentioned. He's also pitched 2 to 2.1 innings in three out of his last four appearances.
  15. I'm not the biggest fan of math, but in physics/astro, it's really a necessity.
