It's absolutely a positive step.... regardless if he needs to show more or not. He pitched 6 scoreless innings against one of the best teams in the international league..... It still is a long way from where he was...... but for sure it was a positive step towards his road back.

I don't think you can make that judgement by simply looking at one stat line. I don't know what the walks looked like... maybe umps missed a call or two... Maybe he got calls. I don't know. It certainly looks better then his most recent starts.

Why is a weak contact pitcher a bad pitcher?

I think he has to make an adjustment on his breaking ball. He really has to be able to drop one in the zone... the same type they drop on Bautista all the time. Then he can throw that one that hits the dirt, that used to get so many batters out.

He's a contact pitcher. You or I really can't judge by looking at the stat line. All take that line any day of the week, if we are talking weak contact.

Probably 4 or 5.... but maybe more. There is not a huge need for him right now.

3 walks aren't too bad for old man Ricky.

I know I just jinxed it.... but it has been a good week for the Jays. Romero gets through 6 solid innings. Gives up 3 walks, but gets a tonne of gb outs. Only gives up 2 hits. Esmil Rogers, who I thought was a bum (might still be) comes in and looks like the ace of the staff. Looked very composed. Was very impressed and surprised. Went toe to toe with Yu Darvish and came up the winner. The infield defense is finally starting to look passable. Man it looked awful early. Mouser is doing well at third, Boni ok at 2nd. Jiminez is back and hitting well. Osuna is back and locked in. Stroman is looking good and might soon provide some depth for the big league club. The bullpen has been nothing short of amazing. Old man Oliver is even coming around and I'm sure he will be gone by the trade deadline regardless how well we are playing. JPA has even looked good defensively the last few games.... and ok at the plate last night. Reyes is set to comeback in a couple of weeks. !!! God damn Mark Buehrle. After his 1st few starts, I didn't think he had a chance to have any success whats so ever.... thought he was done. He has really provided some stability. Everything is coming up Milhouse.

Did anyone see when Saki hit the triple? It was funny watching the Texas 3rd baseman interacting with him.

I thought there was no way Texas wasn't going to make the playoffs.... now.... it's not going to be easy for them. They are really struggling at the plate.

And sometimes fringy players become a long term success.. Bautista, Scutaro, EE... To name a few. That too is baseball.

JPA has looked fine all night behind the plate.. Not so much at the plate. He has called a good game.

Mike Wilner would have been great cast as Theon in Game Of Thrones.

Not trying to troll at all. The Tigers don't have the Pen to get it done... If there is a type of player that you trade when they are on top of their game... It's a reliever... Throw in Oliver too... I don't think we have another Janssen... But we have a lot of candidates.. Just not sure if they match up.

Trade Jansen to the Tigers. Great contract... Exactly what they need... But do they have anything we need? Don't know.

I would rather keep Bau and get Hech back to play second.... Would cost less.

I've been trying to make JPA bad at everything... but just watching him he doesn't seem to be that bad at pitch framing... I would have guessed mid pack.. not near the top. I do see that downward swipe... and he doesn't set the best target... but he's also not terrible.

I would like to see him genuinely attempt to change his plate approach. Almost looks like he has vision problems. He can actually get himself in decent hitters counts. There is still some potential there IMO... But it's hard to see that changing anytime soon.
