  1. I remember when Lawrie came up... People used to laugh when people who were actually watching the games said he could play good defense. They'd say how terrible he was on defense on the old baseball prospectus podcast. Keith Law thought the same.... Jesus, I don't know if this season there has been a better defensive 3rd baseman.
  2. Well.... we could move Reyes to second and then move Goins to ss.
  3. I just want to point out, that this is my longest thread I have ever started..... on any board, on any subject..... ever!!... Oh yeah!!
  4. No doubt he is higher touted... be interesting to look back 10 years from now.
  5. I knew there was something else to that... thanks. Curious. Would you rather have Beade or Stroman?
  6. Even though there is a great case not to bring him up in a meaningless month.... I think you are correct.
  7. Really? You think a .353 batting average is unsustainable? Nice observation.
  8. So Hurl... Is the pitcher in question legit or not?
  9. Is he eligible for post season?
  10. Goins comes through again... No luck involved.
  11. Obviously he is getting lucky with contact. But I will say this. He is isn't getting lucky when he takes a pitch. He almost never gets a call.... I guess that's a Rookie thing.
  12. I think you read him wrong... Or I'm missing your sarcasm.
  13. Deck McGuire is 4 innings of no hit ball away from a call up.
  14. If I were AA I would tell Johnson that I wil make him the QO.... But he will have to start out as long man in the pen.... Then hopefully he says.... f*** that.... and we get the pick.
  15. How about Aaron Sanchez... Has he pitched 7 innings before?
  16. I'd have him in the bench next year and do my best to get rid of Izzi.
  17. Like the Jose Molina? Or Jose Molina. Jose Molina would be a pretty bad option at starting catcher.
  18. So you would cut him.... or send him back to Buffalo right now? Or what?
  19. Fair enough, good point. If he has a good September and he keeps up a torrid pace, then maybe the FO thinks they have the problem solved and it f***s them next year.
  20. I'll say this. I would love to have him here over Izturis next year. Just the flexibility to be able to send him to Buffalo when you may need help at pitching would be worth it.
  21. Yes I understand.... I think most people do. Hence the 10% chance of making it that was used earlier. Maybe it's 2%.... But what's the sense of arguing over a 8% difference, when two sides are basically saying he has a 90%+ chance of not making it? He's here... he's playing... the Jays are completely done. Why not cheer for a 1 or 2% chance?
  22. What do you mean proved everyone wrong? What were people saying? Were people saying they were all-stars? Really? You wouldn't bank on him being one of the top catchers in the American League (about 4th in WAR)? That's quite the limb you went out on there. I'm here to back all the sane people here who are reading your drivel. DJBluRay, is that you?
  23. Yes... Gomes was awful. As soon as pitchers decided to throw him breaking balls he's going to completely fall apart... Of course until the the hive decides to pass along this special knowledge to opposing pitchers they will continue to serve up Gomes juicy meatballs.
  24. But what you speak of does not exist. I heard people say he had a 90% of failure. I heard people say he's looked ok, give him s shot. It was exactly what I got when I brought up Gomes last year..... he was a strike out machine.... he was going to do nothing but strike out as soon as pitchers decided to throw him a breaking ball (why message board contributors are privy to this information and not the actual pitchers is beyond me). But he's been fine this year. I don't think Goins is a starting 2nd baseman.... I don't think many people here do. But in 5 years, I've seen 4 or 5 guys who were supposed to be awful and have been a great suprise....... Loup, Bautista, EE and Gomes come to mind...... it wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever if Goins ended up improving to the point where he was a capable 2nd baseman.
  25. Why would the posts look hilarious in a month from now? Because some people said he has a 10% chance of sticking?
