They're just low efficiency shots. His percentages are just so much higher closer to the rim. I don't think he's lazy, he just might be a bit scared of the contact.

They're going to win this game but my god they cannot rebound. Val is truly horrible at grabbing contested boards. Man he just gets bullied around. 1 blocked shot in his last 5 games... lol....

Compare him to a guy like Wade (used 2012-2013 becaues he's hurt this year): http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wadedw01/shooting/2013/ Wade is what DeMar should be. DeMar is arguably a better athlete than a prime Wade was too. Wade has a weak jump shot but is ridiculously valuable close to the rim.

The NBA is so different than MLB. In the bigs you can afford to get away with paying a good player who has some serious warts 10M a year (People have no problem paying #2-3 starters 15+M) You pretty much can't do that in the NBA and expect to compete. DeRozan's contract isn't crazy bad it's definitely not crazy good either. Is he worth the money? Probably... but he needs to be more efficient with his shots and be a bigger contributor defensively. I don't understand why a guy who is so insanely athletic would just settle for mid range jumpers all day. Take the ball to the rack son.

Vasquez's WS/48 is .019. That is absolutely terrible. If this team wants to make another incremental improvement... trade a 2nd rounder for a decent backup PG.

Also, Greivis Vasquez f***ing sucks. This guy might have a worse shooting touch than Ricky Rubio. Christ almighty, someone get Casey to reign this clown in. He's a decent play maker but he should never, EVER be shooting unless nothing else is going on during that possession.

If the Raps had a truly dominant rebounder/big man (or if JV was like 3-4 years older) this team would actually have a chance to make a run in the playoffs. Their guard play has basically been flawless the last two months. Top 5 back court in the league right now probably. They're just too soft down low. I love Amir but he's best utilized coming off the bench. Patterson plays a bit smaller than he actually is (great shooter though), Hayes is old and too short to be a force on the glass... His vetrin presents can only go so far. JV is toughening up a bit but he isn't athletic enough to beat guys like Hibbert on the glass. If they had someone like an Emeka Okafor it'd make a huge difference. But do you go for it this year or do you keep the current group and re-tool in the offseason? It's tempting to go for it this year because of how weak the east is but Ujiri probably sticks it out... and that's likely the best move longterm. Regardless of what happens, this is a ton of fun to watch.
