Roster Resource has already updated. Gausman, Cease, Bieber, Berrios, Ponce Yesavage was relegated to the minors. -

Unless the Jays can get a guy like Fairbanks on a short 2 year deal at a palatable cost, RP may be best added in season through trade or from in-house (specifically looking at Tiedemann).

I doubt the Jays are going to pony up big dollars for a reliever when they already have Hoffman. Agree a lower tier target like Fairbanks and Keller is possible.

Thing is, unless you are the Dodgers, a team only pays market rate for a high priced free agent if they have a clear hole on the roster. Jays had a rotation hole, and signed Cease. They don't really have a hole at 2B or in the OF that would merit a Bo or a Tucker, unless they plan to trade a cost controlled player and replace with a high priced free agent. Unlikely. For example, I don't see the Jays starting with Leo Jimenez as backup infielder - hence Ha-Seong Kim. SP depth - Bassitt. Closer by committee - Hoffman, Fairbanks, Yimi.

With the current payroll level, Bo or Tucker or Belly is quite unlikely. Ha-Seong Kim, Bassitt (swingman role), and Fairbanks are more realistic, and all are great fits.

Of course there could be significant differences in operating expenses from one team to another depending on their stadium agreements, potentially principal and interest paydowns on loans, etc. The small market teams may well invest more in scouting and player development in general, as that is the only way they can realistically compete.

Nothing wrong with a vlad, Clement, Andres, barger infield. No pressing need to add a 2b. Tucker or Bellinger for the OF if Bo is out.

Incomplete. They have like 180M in operating expenses. Plus other expenditures. Get back to me when you have the full balance sheet. If you look at the differences between revenue and payroll for the various teams, it seems to average around $200M. Operating expenses are semi fixed although teams could cut or add to for example player development expenses at any time. Or marketing / promotions, or scouting, or DSL operations, etc. So Miami has 317M in revenue and 86M in payroll. A difference of 231M. A large chunk of that is operating expenses, maybe some loan interest, and yes probably some profit too. Miami spending 27% of revenue on player payroll DOES NOT mean the owners are making a huge profit and they have room to add tens of millions in player salary.

Agree on Straw. Loperfido can do that role. If Bo or Tucker signed, seems Santander will take playing time away from guys just as good (when defense factored in). Santander projected for 1 to 1.3 WAR as a full time role, with horrible defense. Even with 30 HR, blech.

Reduce payroll, add some wiggle room for other acquisitions. They could keep him, sure, but my spidey sense sees him as another Morales scenario.

Actually back loaded deals do lower the AAV, as NPV calculations still apply. Eg. The 2030 salary amount would be discounted to present value. Same thing as deferrals. Of course the further off the payment is due, the greater the discount.

No where did I write the Brewers are losing money. If that was my intent, it would have been written in black and white, with no need for your mental gymnastics.

Geoff Pontes (BA writer) expects Tiedemann will be used in short outings next season. If he can stay healthy, there's a good chance he's on the Jays as a shutdown reliever by mid July. Don't be surprised if the Jays hold off on bullpen acquisitions until in season, if necessary. Relievers are extremely volatile, anyway.
