    Bautista will rage even more as he declines. I suspect he will also do a 'kiss my purple butt' at the idea of DH. Would rather he do s*** that with another team. EE is cheaper, younger, and accepts the DH role. Choice is easy once these little intangibles beyond the stats are applied.

    3 things: EE and Bats both in a contract year, playing for a big payday is a good thing Jays are in better position in the offseason to sign one of them as there is no loss of pick Alford likely eclipses Bats as a player by 2019 (defense is a thing) Conclusion: Sign EE next offseason

    average xFIP for relievers 3.9, starters 4.0 in 2015, so ok but its a season and in a series getting to the bullpen earlier in one game increases your chances to win the next also the more pitches you make a pitcher throw in a given inning, the more likely he tires and makes a mistake pitch..... you want your hitters that make a pitcher work getting more at bats edit: another reason you want your patient hitters getting more at bats is it increases the chances of a wild pitch or Morganna running on the field

    you actually think an extra at bat every 3 games (the result of batting 1st instead of middle of the order) will be too tiring for Martin? do you know how much work outside of the actual game a pro ballplayer puts in?

    back then, the way Cito wrote out the lineup card was pretty much the norm plenty of reasons to criticize him, but Devo leadoff is one of the lesser evils a Bautista as leadoff in 92-93 would get you fired

    Looks like it. And Gibby is suggesting Sanchez has the inside track on SP5. I'm rather excited to see how much closer to his ace upside Sanchez can move this year.

    Just looked at PITCHES/PA data. Martin (3rd), Bautista (8th), EE, and Donaldson in top 25 in AL. Having those four at the top of the lineup will make the pitcher work more leading off the game. On a team that doesn't have guys on base ahead of JD, Bats, EE run much anyway, its a consideration. Making a pitcher throw 15-20 pitches or more starting the game is not insignificant. Many of the blow out games were due to a whack of runs in the early innings. EDIT: expect there is a strong correlation between OBP and P/PA, anyway, so using OBP good enough.

    Too early for Donaldson Also, Jesse Barfield (7 yrs with Jays) and Jose Bautista (7 yrs with Jays) roughly same WAR over the 7 yr period. Like Fernandez, Barfield is seriously underrated.

    EE could get in a car crash in the DR (has been known to happen) or some other s*** between now and season opener. Less risk if the Jays sign him closer to his deadline. It's a bluff anyhow. Show the $$, he will sign whenever.
