  1. No we are talking about winning a WS, and the way to do it is by fielding a consistently competitive team. Probability is, one of those years, the team stays healthy, a couple of guys have career years, and the team wins a WS. The 'window' model that AA and the accountant pursued is a stupid approach. You've only got a short window of time where everything has to go right (health, performance, etc).
  2. No change in philosophy. I had been calling for Jose to be traded for some time. That post was made in a thread debating extending JB and EE. If you arent going to trade him, then sure, talk extension. I was right on choosing EE over JB.
  3. Nah, just a differing philosophy on asset mgmt. Prospect development and a focus on continuous asset renewal (moving aging assets for younger ones) is the way to win WS IMO. Kinda like the Rays have been running things (or were under Friedman). And Spanky I know is still butthurt for giving me a 1st rounder for Bautista.
  4. Imagine the haul we could have had 3 seasons ago when the time was right to move him
  5. Have added Flowers and Tim Anderson (who has been hot). Expect to keep both, Anderson long term and Flowers as potential deadline trade bait next season.
  6. same plm here
  7. Jose Fernandez compensation.... wtf? what was the comp for oscar taveras
  8. was also wondering how Ohtani ended up as an owed prospect, when it says in the first post that only prospects owned by MLB teams can be drafted
  9. ok so the trade moratium ends a week tomorrow, good to know... time to make some offers
  10. can someone clarify, does end of season on the rules post #1 mean end of MLB season or end of BORED season, which will be a week tomorrow when mike trout's team hoists the trophy?
  11. Frenchsoup left me an old declining team. Some good pieces but generally s*** and getting shittier. Under no illusions about the young players and prospects. But have enough of them to reasonably expect 3 or 4 will be elite in a few years.
  12. I'll take the over. Took an old s***** Frenchsoup managed team and within a few months turned it into the youngest team in BORED with similar stats to the team I started out with. Turned a ridiculously s***** list of prospects into a list with 9 of 12 prospects on BA top 100. Accomplished objective #1 - finish ahead of Boxy. To be fair, he has been consumed by politics.
  13. A wRC+ of 142 in the 2nd half. Needs to do it over a whole season but the breakout signs are definitely there. In general, Dynasty league owners are impatient with young players, which I intend to exploit.

  15. If you consider mediocrity, decent.
  16. Good to know you are alive and kicking Ang. Spanky was worried.
  17. I fully expect an extension for Stro this offseason.
  18. Remember when the Jays signed Darvish and BJMB exploded?
  19. A Tony Fernandez comp by Sickels. Ridiculous.
  20. I've never advocated for a firesale. Move JD, yes, and any other player over 30, if you can get a reasonable return in youth.
  21. John Olerud (#3 1990) Carlos Delgado (#4 1993, #5 1994) Vernon Wells (#5 2000, #12 2001) Alex Gonzalez (#5 1994, #8 1995) Shawn Green (#6 1995) Alex Rios (#6 2004) Travis Snider (#6 2009, #11 2008) Joe Silva (#10 1994) Roy Halladay (#12 1999) Derek Bell (#15 1992) Travis d'Arnaud (#17 2012)
  22. Holy s***, 4-6 years @ $20M a year for Smoak? No way. He likely regresses in 2018 and beyond. If you make these signings, what about Osuna, Stroman, Sanchez, who will soon be in line for big raises? You are quickly running out of cash to field a team without holes. The Tulo and Martin albatrosses need to be jettisoned, and several cost controlled players are needed along with some high priced veterans to compete with the Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Yankees of the world. And in a few years, the White Sox. If Rogers can't stomach a scorched earth (quicker) rebuild, a slower rebuild will have to happen, and Jays need to be targetting the expiration of the Martin and Tulo contracts to be true contenders again.
  23. ah.... meant JPA, there are others like Bonifacio. And targetting players in decline like Reyes. Injury prone guys like Johnson. An old knuckleballer coming off a career year. Giving up a guy like Napoli for an old reliever.
  24. What an ugly lineup.
