    Any team can be competitive the next year. Realistically, for the Jays, chances are quite slim for 2018. Too many holes, too many aging players, limited farm help ATM.

    Collective bargaining is capitalism. In this case, maximizing the return on unique baseball skills that people pay good money to see/watch.

    That's one school of thought that I don't subscribe to. ML front offices are smart enough to know 2018 JD will be closer to 2016 JD, and that 2017 is not the real JD.

    The only real question is whether to move JD now or not. He's the only player that makes sense (at least to some) to move now and get a nice return. Other players it makes sense to move such as Pillar, ain't gonna fetch much.

    He has more value now. Truth is, the competition is getting better while the Jays are treading water for the next few years. I appreciate your optimism though.
