  1. Looking for reasons to criticize the FO, this is as weak as it gets
  2. It's the 1st game of ST lol
  3. How do you know the Jays did not make offers in years past, that Vlad then declined?
  4. You aren't 13 yrs old, are you Spanky?
  5. This is likely the outcome of many teams having financial limitations due to the broadcasting revenue issues and overall loss of entertainment market share by MLB. It's the back of the roster guys that get the hit.
  6. I'm with Term. Raising the luxury tax thresholds (this should happen annually) but more importantly increasing the penalties will level the playing field somewhat. If the increased penalties are things like loss of draft pick(s) and further impacts on IFA money, this would be to the further benefit of small market teams without being a straight cash transfer (or "revenue sharing" to use the polite term). It would essentially improve small market farms at the expense of the larger market teams, such that the smaller market teams derive more benefit from the cost controlled player years. Then introduce a multiplier to deferrals, so that normal accounting practices are used to determine NPV, then increase the NPV by say for discussion purpose 10% for luxury tax calculations. This will depress the use of deferrals by teams near or beyond the luxury thresholds and have no impact on the use of deferrals by small market teams.
  7. Agreed, the woke crowd is out of control
  8. If the reporting is to be believed, the Jays did make an overpay offer. Vlad simply priced himself more than is reasonable.
  9. Yankees gearing up for a run at Vlad next offseason
  10. I can't be the only one that thinks Vlad, after signing a mega deal, loses all interest in physical fitness and becomes a bloated 350 lb blob in a relatively short period of time.
  11. Is there a possible reason for negotiations extending to the last minute. For example, it is possible that Vladdy said he wanted to see who the Jays acquired before making a decision.
  12. Are you dense? Soto is money in the bank, very consistent. Low risk. Vlad is extremely inconsistent. High risk. Pricing the risk, most teams would assess Vlad to be 50% or less of Soto's value.
  13. 1 year of Soto on the open market would be $50M+. Not the $31.5M awarded by the arbitrator following CBA rules. Whereas it is quite possible Vlad gets less than the arb award on the open market as his 2023 season was terrible.
  14. Nothing wrong with a 2 year lull, while the team is retooled / rebuilt. The Red Sox are coming out of one, and look like a good bet for WC or even win ALE.
  15. Funny thing is Edwin signed for what the Jays offered and he rejected. Baseball is a business, walking away from Vlads unreasonable demands was good business.
  16. Currently 5th highest. Criticizing Rogers' salary commitment is misplaced. The team issue is an inability (or bad luck) in developing prospects.
  17. FYI, GG are meaningless and your eyes cannot possibly assess the quality of a defensive play in relation to all other 1B
  18. Of course but as I said Vlad only cares about hitting and thinks hitting alone will get him a big payday. Also, dont you think any trade partners will take into account Vlads motivation? Trade him now.
  19. Also, Vlad doesn't strike me as the professional type. Would not want him on the team if he's just playing out the year with the expectation of moving on. If he's kept, he'll hit, but get ready for terrible defense and baserunning by an uninterested Vlad.
  20. That would be a huge mistake. As far as signing Vlad for what he wanted, likely $40M+ AAV and $500M+ total, the Jays can get more WAR through multiple next tier FA. Vlad is a great bat no doubt, but he sucks at everything else, including the clubhouse (more Gatorade dumps, anyone?). Trade him now for the best return you can get.
