    Given the market, Jays far better off trading for a CF using the C surplus, and using any FA dollars they have for pitchers (of which there are plenty available).

    Rosenthal's piece suggests Thomas is available. Rather get one or the other of Thomas or Bellinger, Jays already have Merrifield as a capable OF backup.

    Jake McCarthy is 25, Alek Thomas is 22. Alek has the far superior MiLB numbers. A comparison of their 2022 MLB results needs to consider the .349 BABIP for McCarthy and .263 BABIP for Thomas. Thomas all the way.

    Didn't Bongos encourage this? After losses, he'd talk about how the players are loose and having fun and it's all good. A management philosophy I expect, positive thinking and all that. If there was any difference in Jays clubhouse behaviour compared to other teams, Bongos is part of the reason. Clubhouse culture in no small part flows from the manager. By my eyes there appeared to be a change right from the point Schneider took the reins.

    Being Boras, and with Belly being an unprecedented FA, I'm seeing something like this: $15m base, with $10M in incentives that also kick in a player option of an additional 2 years at $25M per. In other words, if Belly fixes his mechanical and between the ears issues and lays off the dope (painkiller addiction?), its a 3/75 contract. Gonna be the most interesting contract in the history of baseball, methinks.

    So performance bonuses can't be statistics based, but can be based on getting a GG, or finishing top 10 in MVP or whatever. Would you give Belly a $10M bonus for finishing MVP top 10?

    Belly is going to get an incentive laden Contract that pays him anywhere from $10M to $25M edit - nvm, MLBPA rules don't allow performance bonuses apparently

    IMO this is ideal, then move one of the C for SP, and resign Stripling to be swingman.

    Y'all are forgetting about speed in fistfights. Vlad and Manoah are too slow footed to be any good. Now Chapman has quick feet, good size, and tremendous arm strength. He's my pick.

    He played through it. A lot of pressure/stress on the legs during the swing, he made changes to manage the pain..... I guess.

Basically says Bellinger's mechanics (and not dope) have changed due to injuries and puts most of the blame on the fractured fibula. Bellinger is basically learning to hit MLB pitching again with changed mechanics.

    Yes, but he'll be 36 in May, a negative defender, and seems to get hurt often. And we already have Springer. If the Jays move Kirk, Brantley would make more sense as a 4th OF, primary DH. Certainly the value as a high OBP guy in the two hole is there.

    Can't remember where I read it, but a connected writer says the Jays are determined to move Springer to a corner for health / playing time reasons.

    Merrifield, Biggio, Espinal should be adequate. Not sure that the gap between Brantley and one of those 3 is enough for it to make sense.

    It's a bit more complicated for the Jays in that even if Springer moves to corner OF, he's likely to miss a good chunk of games. So you don't want an all glove CF with a bat not much better than Tilapia or what's his name came over from the Red Sox.
