  1. They did try to sign Anibal Sanchez. There weren't many realistic FA targets that offseason and I doubt FA are lining up to sign with Jays. Of course, no deal is better than a bad deal. However, in order to accept no moves, you would've had to be willing to be expected to tank in 2013 and 2014. Something that the Jays have been unwilling to do since the 80's. I do question those above AA's long term vision or lack there of when it came to the Marlins trade. It seems to me that in order to take on the salaries they did, they should've looked ahead at where payroll would be in 2014 and 2015 and to plan for the possibility of having to make further improvements to the team. On the other hand, maybe they tried to sign some FA and were told to f-off.
  2. So getting back to Pompey, is he injured or what? He hasn't played since May 19 which is why I joked that he was demoted to AA.
  3. No issues with your post regarding the offseason. However, Big Cecil said, "AA should have been backfilling with some credible above replacement level talent when Saunders went down or even when he came back the 1st time. It was obvious he wasn't right." He also mentioned Melky Cabrera who's not doing very well and would've cost a 3-4 year deal. That's what I was referring to, entire post didn't seem too bright to me...not to suggest that I'm all that bright!
  4. Man, this is with the benefit of hindsight, but this team would suck without Martin, Donaldson and Travis.
  5. I wouldn't completely disagree with you, but why bring EE back at all? Again, this is not to suggest that the F/O knew he'd explode, but there were some signs in 2011.
  6. So according to Davidi's article linked below, the Jays were in deed trying to acquire Hamels, but it was during the off season. If true, it would prove that AA was in deed trying to upgrade the starting rotation, he just couldn't do it: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-havent-asked-about-hamels-in-months/ I really hope they don't go out and trade for pitching unless they don't have to give up any top prospects which is highly unlikely given AA's history of overpaying for pitching.
  7. Why you blaming me? I was responding to some tweet from some guy about there being speculation all week about Gibbons. All I did was point out that I didn't think AA would fire Gibbons unless the dumber higherups forced him to. I thought I read yesterday that AA said the team had roster problems, not manager problems. Plus, AA went out on a limb to retread Gibbons out of nowhere in part, as he put it, because they had become friends during Gibbons's first stint with Jays. For the record, I don't think Gibbons has helped his cause this season with many of his decisions. However, we all know their 3 top starters have pitched like garbage, they have 3 regular position players on the DL plus Bautista's injured shoulder is screwing up the roster to an extent.
  8. I doubt AA would fire Gibbons on his own, if Gibbons was to be fired, it would come from above AA.
  9. Probably going down there to eat the leftovers from dinner.
  10. Did DeJong really go 8.2 innings last night? That would be something.
  11. Norris: 3-IP, 1-H, 1-ER, 4-BB, 2-K. Reyes: 1-1 with a BB.
  12. If you want to be a smartass, go ahead.
  13. Not to defend AA, but having the patience to stick to rebuilding plans has to come from the very top of the organization. Too late now...
  14. Add Anibal Sanchez to this reported list of pitchers not wanting to pitch for Jays. Imagine trying to sign pitchers trying to re-establish their value which is what many wanted as depth? Yikes... *If true, of course.
  15. The Jays went 73-89 during the 2012 season, The Marlins Trade was made after the 2012 season. And even those vehemently opposed to that trade will tell you the team projected better than the team they would've fielded without the players acquired in The Marlins Trade. It would also have been a cheaper team that would've drawn fewer fans and lower tv ratings. It is what it is.
  16. You probably need to take some viagra first though. Anyway, I was jk 'bout AA demoting Pompey to AA.
  17. Furthermore, I guess you agree with his being deomoted after 23 games? Honestly, would you really be surprised if they demoted him to AA? This bunch brought up 2 guys who had barely pitched at Dunedin, but hey, once a homer always a homer...
  18. Well, he has struggled at Buffalo so I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
  19. So how many innings should Hoffman throw this season?
