I interpreted your post as saying that Benoit shouldn't have challenged Ortiz, that he should've pitched around him and I agree. My point is that if a manager brings in his closer in the 8th inning with the bases loaded, I think he's telling him to get Ortiz out and if you want him to get an out, he'll challenge him. If you want to nibble with Ortiz and try and get him to chase out of the strike zone without caring if you walked him, I think you bring in a lefty.
Anyway, seems like Dombrowski should've trade for Janssen and Cecil. Tigers are still in good shape, they're going home with Verlander on the mound, but Farrell's ball club will probably find a way to pull it out.
