  1. I thought Lawrie showed improvement. I think Reyes' approach is already up the middle maybe Seitzer can help him to play better D somehow. Lind had a good season and Melky was injured/ill and may just not be that good without them 'roids. Not saying I necessarily disagree with you approach-wise, but let's face it, the C, 2B and LF positions need upgrades period with the possible exception of a healthy Cabrera.
  2. Exactly. This whole story of them being a tandem was BS. The only reason they were a tandem was because AA didn't have the guts (or authority) to fire straight up fire Murphy and hand the job to Mottola full time.
  3. At least AA is showing some consistency here because cronyism was behind the Gibbons hiring although I don't dislike him.
  4. That choke on Sunday was huge. At least there may be a better chance someone at Rogers starts to ask Beeston/AA questions after Farrell wins the WS.
  5. I don't think the Blue Jays are trying to build a championship team, they just want to play well enough to keep interest going.
  6. I think that if the team tanks again next season, AA is gone, possibly before the end of July. The bigger issue to me is Beeston, I'd like to think he'd be fired or would retire to allow a new president to hire the baseball operations personnel.
  7. I could be wrong, but didn't AA say that he called the Marlins to continue talks that had started in July about JJ and it was the Marlins who brought up Buehrle and then Reyes? If this is the case, it may not jibe with saying that he was pressured into going all in. And even if he was pressured to compete in 2013, it doesn't excuse him for not even trying to sign free agents, even if he had to overpay, instead of overpaying in terms of $ and prospects.
  8. I interpreted your post as saying that Benoit shouldn't have challenged Ortiz, that he should've pitched around him and I agree. My point is that if a manager brings in his closer in the 8th inning with the bases loaded, I think he's telling him to get Ortiz out and if you want him to get an out, he'll challenge him. If you want to nibble with Ortiz and try and get him to chase out of the strike zone without caring if you walked him, I think you bring in a lefty. Anyway, seems like Dombrowski should've trade for Janssen and Cecil. Tigers are still in good shape, they're going home with Verlander on the mound, but Farrell's ball club will probably find a way to pull it out.
  9. The thing is, if you bring in your closer in that situation, you bring him in to pitch to Ortiz, at least that's how I view it.
  10. My guess is next june/july would be when they'd realize it's time to (re) start the rebuilding process if they're tanking again. Whether it's this front office that does the rebuilding is another matter, I would think a new one would need to be brought in. It's really a shame, as you have said, I liked the way the franchise was shaping up prior to the Happ trade and even with the injuries in 2012.
  11. I feel confident that we'll see reduced ticket sales this off season which will hopefully get the Rogers high-ups' attention and make them start to question the way their franchise is being run.
  12. I'm all for making additions given that they've done what they've done, but I'm hoping they go the FA route and keep the young starters that should start at AAA. I seem to remember them claiming that by making the trades they made last off season, they'd become more attractive to free agents, so it's time for AA to sign a good free agent or 3.
  13. I like your idea and it's the type of thinking that will be required to improve the team with the payroll constraints they've given themselves. However, I just don't see AA dealing Bautista, I even think part of the reason for making the trades, starting with the Happ trade, was because they had made promises to Bautista that they would go for it to get him to sign the extension he did.
  14. Chris Davis says hello, lol. You put it right though, he's not as stupid as AA.
  15. Shouldn't there be an option to address the holes through free agency? I would prefer the total rebuild option, but would wait till around june/july of next year because of Bautista, EE and Morrow's injuries. I think if these 3 guys show that they are healthy and performing, they will fetch more than this off season.
  16. Which also puts a damper on any hope fans may have of the Jays acquiring him and extending him.
  17. Plus either the Marlins or Mets trade probably would not have been made.
  18. Maybe the Tigers would rather trade him and extend Scherzer? Would come at a lower price and fits with AA's mo of last off season of trading for players under contract because he doesn't think he can sign them as FA.
  19. I'm convinced the Red Sox will win the WS, they just have that look about them. That Dodgers/Red Sox trade was huge for the Red Sox, they even got a couple of prospects out of it on top of the huge salary relief.
  20. Plus it would be exciting to watch that city burn and get looted in the celebrations.
  21. The thing is I don't think they had 2 HC's because they were trying to be creative, I think they had 2 hitting coaches because AA didn't have the balls or authority to fire Murphy.
  22. AA doesn't know what he's doing. No other team that I can think of has 2 hitting coaches, it just doesn't happen. Plus, remember Lind saying he received mixed messages from Farrell and Murphy? Well, I think it comes from the fact that AA doesn't have a baseball philosophy.
