  1. I'd really like to see Stroman, Hutchison, Drabek and Nolin get their time at AAA. If the Jays get Tanaka or any of the other FA pitchers, I see no reason to rush any of these 4 when they have Happ, Rogers and Redmond as #5s.
  2. Plus he acquired position players like Rasmus, Lawrie, Escobar, D'Arnaud and Gose in trades. Another thing, so many complain about AA trading away so much of the farm last off season, me included, but then turn around and bash his drafting and player development and say the franchise can't draft or develop players? Kind of contradictory. I'm not trying to defend AA, I think he took huge risks last off season and will ultimate either pay for them with his job or be rewarded with an extension. Ultimate, I believe franchises are built from top to bottom by owners and sometimes team presidents.
  3. I would think Tanaka will take up to a week to see who's interested and then separate the serious offers from the pretenders. I like the fact that he's 25 and this would be a way to replace Syndergaard, albeit an expensive way. They decided to play with the big boys so it's either Tanaka, Garza/Jimenez/Santana, trade more of the future for 2 years of Samardzija or stand pat. I lean heavily towards spending money. I also suspect that if they get Tanaka, they'd trade Happ and one of Santos/Janssen which could mean getting a 2B in return. At this point, I hope they at least get either a platoon partner for Lind or a better 2B option.
  4. There are 4 top leagues though, I would think that's the difference.
  5. Signing Tanaka might be the only way to get any type of buzz going about the 2014 season. If JJ hadn't been as bad/unlucky as he was, I think they would've made the QO so that's 14M right there plus they could conceivably find a taker for Janssen/Santos and even Happ, given what teams are paying for 5th starters. Should be interesting, but the Blue Jays will probably offer 60/3 plus 3 option years.
  6. At least one of which was started by you, lol.
  7. Is it better to have a blind bidding process? I don't know if the previous system helped small-market teams more. And I don't really see anything wrong with the player reaping the fruits of his talent, just like MLB FA
  8. Would you rather pay Tanaka 18-20M per over 5 or 6 years or sign a Garza/Santana/Jimenez for 15M over 4 or 5 years? What about Tanaka over trading for and extending Shark? It's a lot of money, but the Blue Jays made the decision to give up a big chunk of their future to try to contend now, they'll likely have to spend either on the remaining FA pitchers or trade more of their future for a Shark type. I say get Tanaka and flip him to the Mariners for Walker and Franklin.
  9. Kawasaki signing announced today and now this, hopefully they announce tomorrow that Tanaka has chosen the Blue Jays, lol.
  10. He WAS thrown to the curb! You do raise a legitimate question though. However, one counter-argument would be that Napoli was at least good enough to have been kept and traded for something better than what he was traded for. My guess is that the same people that advised AA on JPA, advised him on Napoli's ability to catch.
  11. So getting Escobar doesn't count? It must've been all luck, like all of AA's good moves. I think some posters are going overboard, but I understand them, they must feel like their wife cheated on them given how many of us felt before AA's last few trades.
  12. What does everyone think of Vlad Guerrero's HOF chances? I got to watch him with the Expos when he came up and I went to tons of games from '98 till he left, really enjoyed that.
  13. How do you know Rasmus didn't reject an offer? All speculation, no big deal.
  14. How do you know this, did you grow up with Lawrie and Rasmus too?
  15. Agreed. I think AA's choices with Escobar were to either outright release him and eat his salary or find someone to take him and his salary even if it was a good deal. Does anyone remember if there were reports of Escobar being put on waivers at the time of the homophobic incident?
  16. I'm sure at least 20 other franchises would want a Beane/Friedman/Mozeliak, but if 20 franchises had them, they wouldn't be as good. The thing is, are you confident that Beeston would hire a better GM to succeed AA? I doubt it and doubt even more that a Beane or Friedman could be lured to work for the Blue Jays. I certainly hope I'm wrong. At the end of the day, if they win 85 games and are in the 2nd WC race, AA will stay.
  17. I guess you could accuse me of being cynical, but I think if he pursues Tanaka/Garza, it'll be to provide an excuse for trading more prospects for another starter. I would take Tanaka because he's 25, but if they were to get Baker plus improve 2B and a platoon partner for Lind instead, I'd be fine with it.
  18. He's below average to me right now. It's been really bad beginning with the Happ trade plus he held onto Lyons and Oliver that season. His performance prior to the Happ trade saves him and some good moves would put him above average. However, a couple more bad moves could drop him to the bottom of the heap.
  19. The Astros had several years of contention, but the nucleus of those teams was aging and they had given it a final go in 2009 and 2010 so I think they correctly decided to rebuild. I certainly don't think this applies to every franchise. I said they correctly decided to rebuild, meaning that it was better to do that instead of spending the kind of money it would've taken to make that aging team a winning one. In the 5 years prior to the years I listed, the Astros made the playoffs twice and in 2008, they had an 86-75 record so I can see why they might've given it another shot in 2009 and 2010, but after that, they just decided to commit to a full rebuild, I don't see the issue. I really don't see where I suggested they're a model franchise.
  20. Astros last 5 seasons: Year W L 2009 74 88 2010 76 86 2011 56 106 2012 55 107 2013 51 111 They have correctly committed to a rebuild, but have 5 straight losing seasons and will probably make it 6 next year. I doubt Rogers has the patience to make this type of commitment given that they own the sports channel that broadcasts their games and need to provide content that people want to watch.
  21. If he got a ring, he'd be on par with Posey.
  22. There wouldn't be much hatin' to do had AA stuck to the plan he touted so much. Also, the haters see what good shape the organization would be in had AA not gone "all in". The farm would be one of the best in MLB with players graduating to MLB, AAA, AA, A+ and all the talent in SS ball and the team would have the financial flexibility to overpay free agents to play in Toronto. We'll see what happens.
  23. Maybe the delay is that they're trying to find them?
  24. Were the Blue Jays even in on either Ellis or Infante? We'll have to wait for next off season's book to find out. Maybe trading Rasmus would return a SP and young 2B. We'll see, hopefully Ackley/Fanklin+ and sign one of Garza, Jimenez, Santana with the savings? Wait and see is the name of the game.
  25. I really don't like to look down upon anyone so I certainly should've worded my comment differently regarding the Royals. I'm not sure I agree that the Royals have a better team, but I won't argue in favor of the Blue Jays at this point. I just don't see why the Jays couldn't attract FA's like Infante, I get that it may be difficult with the elite FA's, but guys like Infante should be signable even if you have to add a year to the contract. Of course, in order to sign a FA, you'd have to pursue him first which the Jays may or may not have done, so who knows. There certainly are no indications that they pursued Infante, just as an example. Hopefully, AA is back to his NINJA days and ends up making some Rasmus/Escobar/Morrow-type trades, but we'll have to wait and see.
