  1. I wasn't as down on the team as other a week ago, so that hasn't changed. I have low expectation (92W) so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. The fact that Reyes had that hammy issue is a big concern, I don't think he'll be running much early on and there's a reasonable chance he aggravates it and misses a month. Morrow looked good yesterday, but I didn't see the same zip on the fastball at least not by my eye-gun. I'm looking forward to following Stroman, Nolin, Sanchez, Jimenez, Burns, Nay, Barreto, Castro, Labourt, DeJong and others in the minors. We'll see what happens.
  2. Was joking, but wouldn't be surprised...especially working with Zaun, lol.
  3. Couldn't stand working with Zaun and Blair anymore.
  4. Major concern. Another issue is how AA turned an organizational position of strength to one of weakness all in a span of 6 months or so. One can only hope these issues are addressed.
  5. To be fair, Reyes hadn't been acquired at the time and they still had Escobar, Hech, D'Arnaud, Mathis and JPA. It was seen as an overpayment at the time. Let's hope A.J. Jimenez can be a comparable player.
  6. I've been looking for someone to write an article questioning AA since last year, but haven't seen one yet. There are several things that he needs to address including the trade being discussed here and several other issues. Another one related to this trade is why did he think Aviles and Gomes was a fair price to pay for Rogers when he acquired Lincoln for Snider and Delabar for Thames? Anyway, maybe one of this board's blog could write an article and offer it to one of the mainstream outlets although I'm not holding my breath.
  7. I understand and agree with your concerns, but let's be honest here, even the mighty braves were in panic mode when 2 of their starters went down early in ST. They were lucky Santana hadn't signed because if the injuries had hit just a week later, they'd be in deeper trouble. The point is that very few teams can with stand long term injuries to their regulars, if there are more than a few, I'd like to see the list posted. Yes, the Cards have depth, but not many other teams. Let's play ball I say.
  8. This applies also to some of the best posters calling AA and idiot though.
  9. Shane Victorino to undergo MRI for hamstring: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140329&content_id=70414884&notebook_id=70430710&vkey=notebook_bos&c_id=bos You know it'll be negative and he'll have a monster year.
  10. I do dislike what some posters do here where they pick the team to contend, which by definition means you think they're a good team, but then s*** all over the organization when the very team THEY picked to contend shits the bed. Same with the Gomes situation, some didn't like the trade, but not specifically because of him, yet they play the "I'm just a dumb fan" card and s*** all over the organization. I guess since we're fans and have no accountability, we can claim we would do this or do that so much better and when we're wrong, who cares, we're not getting paid anyway. Full disclosure: I'm as dumb as they come, I picked this team to win between 86-92 games last year.
  11. I had a problem with the trade at the time, mainly because I thought AA was overpaying. I did like the little I saw of Gomes at the plate, but didn't see him enough. I also liked that he could play 3B, 1B and C. The biggest issue is the overpayment. Overpay for Happ, overpay for Rogers, overpay in the Marlins trade, overpay in the Dickey trade. By definition, when you overpay, you end up with less than you gave up. Do it in 4 trades in a row and...well, you need to be canned.
  12. Oh and they had also sold naming rights to Labatt's to call it "Labatt Park" which was also telling.
  13. Be assured that IF MLB ever returns to MTL, construction for a new stadium would have to start immediately after any deal to bring a team here is reached, if not simultaneously. There would also have to be a certain amount of pre-sold luxury boxes and season tickets thus showing support from the business community. Lack of season tickets sold was always an issue, I think a large percentage of the crowds were walk-up ticket sales. I seem to remember that they had sold a decent amount of luxury boxes and season tickets to the prospective stadium. Kind of telling that they sold more season tickets and luxury boxes to play in a prospective and unlikely downtown stadium than they did to play at the Big Owe.
  14. I'm surprised we don't see guys falling down the upper decks at parks. Especially when they reach for foul balls. The fences seem pretty low.
  15. LOL. Seriously though, his fastball seems to have some nasty late movement that runs in on RH hitters. He also struck out the lefty hitter with a nice change up. Extreme SSS, but let's face it, if he had walked 2 and been hit hard, some would be reacting to that as well. A good, strong season with improved command would be welcome. I certainly don't think he'll lack motivation after getting a taste of the big stage today in front of 50K fans. I think I saw him looking at the crowd in amazement in the 9th inning.
  16. Great chance to see Sanchez on an MLB broadcast and he didn't disappoint. Stuff was as advertised and seemed to command his pitches well. Seems especially nasty in on right handed batters as the FB runs in on them. Seemed to be trying to hard for K at the end, but got bailed out by the ump, lol. No doubt that with some good results this year, he could move up the MLB prospects ranks as his current ranking is heavily based on stuff rather than results.
  17. Watch Matsuzaka pitch great this year and AA trade Sanchez and Stroman for him next off season.
  18. With the talk of promoting the game internationally, MLB should keep an open mind with regards to MTL getting back a team or Vancouver getting a team for the first time or any other possibility and I'm sure they will.
  19. I wonder what the average ticket price was for the 2 games. It looks like they'll have 90K fans over the 2 games, that's some decent revenue for the event organizers and participants.
  20. As far as fan support goes, I'm really not sure. I went to tons of games in '98 and '99, then went to fewer and fewer games as the whole situation worsened. I suspect tons of people stopped going after the '95 fire sale and people forget that the team was decent in '96 only to again be broken up because of crappy ownership. Objectively, I don't know how many MLB markets would've put up with what ownership did here. I think it has to start with finding a good owner.
  21. It would be interesting to find out who is behind Warren Cromartie's efforts to bring a team back to MTL. He's hinted there are some big players behind the scenes. That's really where it starts, you must have the city's business people on board to be taken seriously. A downtown stadium would obviously have to be part of the equation. Who knows, time will tell. A couple of cities have lost their team and got it back later on.
  22. 85. Enough to save AA's job.
