  1. Wow, looks like Jeff Locke has beat him out for a rotation spot when a prospect is recalled. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that I'm happy Nicasio never became a thing.
  2. I like this. He was basically free so why not? Also worth noting: he has a 3M team option for 2017 that could come into play if he settles in nicely this year.
  3. Someone want to tell me who these initialized guys are? I haven't done any prep. Thx.
  4. Right, Mauer. Him and Posey worked out, but you also have the corpses of Grandal, Mesoraco, Montero, d'Arnaud, Wieters, and Zunino in recent memory. Catching is hard.
  5. It's hard to get behind catcher prospects. How many big time C prospects have become top fantasy assets in the last decade? Just Posey?
  6. Do people actually actually root against TCA? The least successful of the heels has to be jaysblue.
  7. He must be asking for Crawford? I don't think you'd decline Miller for the Cubs catcher guy, and there's nothing else appropriate.
  8. I was hoping you'd bite harder, but the troll was probably too obvious.
  9. Taking a pitcher that high is scary. What if you end up with a Rodon or Appel
  10. f*** the autism-spectrum stats crew can be annoying.
  11. Fun Estrada fact: including the playoffs, he has made 26 consecutive starts of 5+ IP and 4 or fewer earned runs allowed. Consistency!
  12. There's no anti-Sanchez bias here. A lot of people, myself included, completely wrote Estrada off because of 'advanced stats'. We weren't looking deep enough, and were wrong. Sanchez was a bad starter until 2016, then improved and now looks like a good starter. People are acknowledging that he's become a good starter. Recap: Estrada - people were wrong and admit it Sanchez - has improved, and people now acknowledge that he's good, reflecting that improvement Not sure what more you want.
  13. Don't be a f***ing pedant. He's been great, and it's fun that he's over 2 RA-9 WAR 10 starts into the season, and has looked pretty convincing doing it.
  14. Is there reason to believe that RA-9 WAR is the best way to evaluate Tillman and Lewis?
  15. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=6&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=3,d Estrada has been an ace so far
  16. Heh, on the topic of not commiting to old guys, the Sox are paying $50M to Hanley, Sandoval, and Craig this year. Cherington was a disaster.
  17. It depends how you want to look at it. Pre-deadline 2016 rotation is worse. Post-deadline 2016 is basically this year's staff with Price replacing Sanchez.
  18. If we're talking about pre-deadline, then maybe. Last year's team was still like +75 or something at this point though. Projections for the post deadline 2015 team were ridiculous. The 2016 team has never been close to that. Losing Price + expected regression from all the 30+ year olds hurts.
  19. Last year's pen down the stretch was deep and very good. Cecil was unhittable, Osuna was dominant, and then you had Hendriks, Lowe, Sanchez, and Hawkins all playing at their peak. Lightning in a bottle.
  20. I don't get it. They're better in LF with a healthy Saunders and at 2B with a healthy Travis. Worse everywhere else. Rotation is worse. Bullpen is worse.
  21. I don't want to trade him. He's so f***ing steady. Keep the innings next year, and then try to get him on another 2-year deal for his age-34 and 35 seasons if he keeps it up. Reliable starters are hard to find, and, given that he doesn't rely on velo, he could be effective for awhile.
