    lol, yeah. Factors 2 and 4 probably mean he'd stay, all else being equal, unlike most free agents who treat Canada like Siberia.

    Players always pay lip service to the fans by saying that they want to stay, and 99% of the time that means "offer me as much as everyone else and I'll stay". If the team wants Edwin, you have to assume that they'll have to pay him as much or more than any other team is willing to pay him.

    Usually it's assumed that two teams will work something out (like trade him for the guy he's cutting to make room), and if that doesn't work one of the two parties will ask a commish to do it manually via pm or post in the league thread. It was just odd to see someone say the trade was never processed, like the onus wasn't on you guys to make sure that it was.

    Yeah, he's not a pure DH in the same vein that Ortiz or V-Mart are. What I meant was that his only actual value to a team comes from his bat, which makes it especially concerning that that one real skill showed signs of decline this year. Yeah, he can play a serviceable 1B defense 70 times a year, but that doesn't carry any value if the bat declines.

    Well, he's averaged like 70 games of average 1B defense a year, and we're talking about his 34-37 seasons. If he's not a bat-only player over his next contract, he's as close as you can get to one. I don't think NL teams look at him.

    The prospect of giving $100M to a 34-year old bat-only player who just had a 4% jump in K-rate and 15% decline in wRC+ is scary.
