  1. Lind should probably just retire. He's old, embarrassed himself last year, has made a ton of money, and doesn't even like baseball. Time to get fat.
  2. Yeah, committing to Morales for two years @ 10-13 per year seems like a bit much. I'd be a lot more comfortable with a 2nd year option. Also not crazy about locking a DH in so early in the offseason. There are similar hitters available who can also play the field.

  4. I wonder what the team would have been willing to give Bautista before the season when he allegedly demanded 6/180 and then cried to the media that he was being treated unfairly. Probably more than the 3/50 he's going to get.
  5. You really think Bautista would leave millions on the table because he got into an altercation with one of their players one time? It must be really hard for NHL players to pick a destination in free agency. Can't go to a team if they employ players fought/hit you before.
  6. Johnny Damon and Jacoby Ellsbury went to New York. This rivalry stuff is for the fans. If Texas is the high bidder, he'll happily go and be welcomed with open arms by their fans and players.
  7. It's crazy how fast things change in baseball. 15 years ago we all thought closers were super valuable, then WAR came out and we all though relievers were a waste of money, now we think that WAR undervalues the contributions of elite relievers, and think they're pretty valuable again.
  8. Would be analogous to like Seattle or the White Sox giving Kenley Jansen 5/85, and then trying to compete in 2017 on a mid-range payroll. Maybe not the ideal move for them, but not obviously terrible either.
  9. I don't think I've ever seen anyone call Ryan a good signing. Every discussion about JP has people mocking that deal, with nobody defending it. Burnett yes.
  10. So, with everyone advocating giving the biggest relief contract ever to Jansen/Chapman, should we admit that we were maybe too hard on JPR for BJ Ryan? He was unquestionably on that level when Toronto gave him 5/47 after 2005. Then his arm exploded.
  11. Every rotation is going to go tits up in a hurry. The most important things are that the rotation looks good in 2017, and is not owed money long term. Check and check.
  12. He still doesn't hit the market until the 8th.
  13. Mods, I'm being repeatedly attacked by BBBB with no provocation. I expect a warning to be issued, followed by a lengthy ban if this behaviour persists. Thx, BTS
  14. thank Christ
  15. ban
  16. I'm curious as to how Trumbo would grade out if left at 1B full time. Teams keep putting him in the OF and tanking his value, but he was a 3B earlier in his career, and in 3000+ innings at 1B he has 12 DRS and 14.5 UZR (1.3/150). If he can play the position at an average level and put up a 110-120 wRC+, he actually does fill a hole. Obviously you don't want to give him a huge contract, but he could be a good addition at the right price.
  17. Not even a bit surprising, but it's good to have him back. What a great trade that was. What was Atlanta thinking?
  18. I don't really understand why you'd want to spend $40M on catching next year. Is the plan to also foot some of Martin's contract to get someone else to take him? What happens at catcher for the first 2-4 months when Ramos is recovering from surgery?
  19. rekt
  20. I honestly can't tell if we're cool and you're joking, or if my skin will one day be hanging beside Boxy's in your closet.
  21. You think his value is up that much from a year ago? He's had seasons before where he's graded out as about average defensively, and season of 120-130 wRC+. He did both in 2016, but I don't think many teams have altered their perspective of him as a player. The market is a lot thinner this year, but going from 1/13 to 5/100 is a big jump.
  22. I'm curious as to why no Fowler. He seems like a decent bet to be worth close to the value of a 4/60 contract, which seems to be about where he'll land. And his skills set fits the team like a glove: probably a + corner OF with a leadoff hitter profile that should prevent Gibby from using Carrera in the spot.
  23. Does 5/80 get Jansen, or would it go higher? I think I'd do that.
