Nah, I don't wish bad things on you. We both took a chance on risky players and I hope both play well. There was no end to the roller coaster last year with his dead thumb and abdominal strains, and it was incredibly frustrating.

Yeah, I though the same thing. Seemed like he stopped inducing swinging strikes later in the game when it became obvious that he was living low in the zone. The bad high fastball might be a necessary evil for him to be at his most effective. There's no evidence that A) it's any worse than last year's, and he can't be incredibly effective while using his bad 4-seamer to change eye levels and set up the nasty split/slider.

I think his stuff looked fine, and he'll probably be very successful throwing it as long as his UCL stays healthy. Full credit to the Jays from me. If Pillar and Travis are taking good AB's, this is an incredibly tough lineup 1-9.

According to Brooks baseball: Tanaka average FB velo in 2014 = 92.74 mph Tanaka's average FB velo last night = 92.63 mph Pat and Buck were bordering on unprofessional talking about how he lost 4-5 mph on his fastball from last year. He wants to throw fewer 4-seamers this year because his 4-seamer got crushed last year. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll be able to effectively set up his splitter while doing this, but the broadcast last night was bush league.

Keuchel's GB rate for the game is like 85% lol. Probably Neshek then Gregerson for the win?

Porcello gave up his age-27-30 free agent years. Kluber gave up four years of team control. The two situations aren't comparable.

Meh. Boston is betting on a 27-year old with no history of arm trouble and a ~3.5 xFIP over the last three years. Their analytics guys obviously believe he's a 3.5 ERA guy they can count on for 30 starts a year. If he pitches to his peripherals again this year there's no way you get him for 4/80.

I'm calling it: Dallas Keuchel has the best facial hair in baseball. It was good last year, but it's on another level right now.
