Bautista isn't even the best hitter on this team anymore. He is still a great hitter but its clear he is declining and Edwin is the better hitter now and so is Reyes. This team can trade Bautista and get away with it if they sign another bat in the winter. That being said its not going to happen, so it doesn't really matter.

At this point Romero is not even an option.

Yup. Plus it saves the team money now as well which will go a long way this winter to address other needs. It's really a no brainer if this is even on the table.

Who are the available catchers this winter? Probably won't matter since it seems unlikely the catching position is addressed.

If AA can't at the very least address 2B and another solid SP, this team has no chance. If he is willing to admit the disaster that is JPA then things start to look even better. They won't sell tickets if nothing is done. AA will try to address the needs by either hitting the FA market or trading away more of the farm. It's either that or a rebuild and we know that isn't going to happen.

AA will go get Halladay. They need another old timer to sit at the seniors table with Dickey and Buehrle to discuss yesteryear.

I would probably start following another team if he did that.

Rangers are not trading Darvish, especially after going out to acquire Garza for the rotation. They will use their prospects to acquire a bat and Profar may be available. If so it would be the perfect scenario for AA to deal Bautista and still sell the idea that this team is planning to contend next season with one of the most hyped prospects coming into the 2013 season. At the end of the day, I just hope AA can get some sort of deal done before the deadline with regards to JJ, Buehrle, anybody in the pen, or a Bautista for Profar (although very unlikely).

From what I understand yes, but I would prefer to see him play a few games a short to see for myself. If not, he would still be a cheap young controllable option for the infield with high upside. It's a no brainer if he is available in a Bautista deal.

If AA somehow pulled off a Buatista/Profar type of deal that would be pretty huge for this team moving forward. Gets us younger and cheaper and sets up the infield D quite nicely with Reyes moving over to 2B. Still keeps this team competitive in the short-term with more flexibility to add in the winter for another attempt at a run.

Hutch shouldn't see any time with the big club this year, there is absolutely no reason for it. This team needs to protect Hutch, Stroman and Nolin right now, those guys are our only immediate hope to get younger in the rotation. Stroman might be ready, but now that this team is so far back we don't need to risk anything. I would just let all three build their innings in the minors and next season we can start looking at them as our primary depth options.

Wouldn't be surprised if they already had some preliminary discussions. The anticipation is just so frustrating because I am hoping AA pulls off a couple deals with the excess relievers and JJ and/or Buehrle, but its a very real possibility nothing happens either.

I wouldn't move Dickey right now. Sure its quite possible he gets even worse next year, but given the fact that he is a KB pitcher and had 3 good years prior, I would take my chances and if he does well and this team again is out of it then look to deal him next deadline. He stands to make $12M next season which is still reasonable and worth the risk. Now if someone offers something significant then sure deal him, but right now his value must be quite low. I would definitely look to deal Buehrle and JJ though.

It will be good until they blow it up again. Marlins model = trick multiple FA to sign multi year deals and then trade them all after 1 season. Rinse and repeat.

LOL at comparing arms. They both have the exact same career CS%. Arm strength is only part of it, but it means nothing if your reaction time is that of a turtle. To add to that: Thole career BA/OBP: .256/327 JPA career BA/OBP: .223/.270. JPA's OBP and OPS seems to be trending downwards too over the past 3 years. JPA is only better than Thole in the power department and that does not make up for all his other deficiencies which include the fact that he can't catch a KB and Thole can.

To get more accurate results it should be based on thanks/total post count with a minimum of 1000 posts. Some people on that list are only there because of sheer volume of posts.

Ace reliever = Ace SP. Who needs Peavy, we have Casey f***ing Janssen.

Four options: 1) Trade Janssen while his value is likely at its highest. Delabar could easily step in and replace him at a fraction of the cost. All the while his value sky rockets after he gets a few saves under his belt seeing as he is cheap and under team control for several years. 2) Or we could trade Delabar who provides much more value/$$ compared to Janssen. Then have a closer in Janssen on our hands that we will either need to extend after the 2014 season for probably greater than $8M per season or have to trade him at the deadline while his value is lower than it is now considering the contract situation. Add to the fact that if the Jays are contending next season, AA will be forced to keep Janssen and then we possibly lose him after the season for nothing or have to sign him to a costly contract that could have been avoided. 3) Or we could trade both Janssen and Delabar while their values are both quite high, and let Santos close out games for us with a strong supporting cast behind him. AA can then go into the winter and look to strengthen the pen further if he wishes when the value of relievers fall quite a bit. 4) Trade no one and have the equivalent of 2 pens show up to spring training. This isn't a difficult decision, but strangely it appears many are having a hard time with it.
