It's because since Halladay we haven't had a true ace. A stopper. A guy you can count on every 5th day to give you a high probabilty of a win and snap losing streaks short. A guy you feel good sending out in a 1 game wildcard play-in or game 1 of a series. All that said, our rotation has not been the problem this year and you're right - an upgrade at 2B would probably have a bigger impact.

Yep. If they stay neck and neck we can't get there. We need one of them to fall back, and they don't play each other much more this year which is too bad.

Exactly. I just hope they realize it. He looks like a perfectly decent 4th OF at league minimum salary. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just a tiny bit scared though that he has a good September and they decide to let Melky walk and pencil Pillar in for the starting job in left next year. That would be beyond foolish. All that said, I still think realistically AA extends Melky, and I think he should.
