  1. And they've definitely done it better than last year
  2. It is I always took it as scoring without getting big hits/home runs. Singles, walks, stolen bases, bunts, advancing the runners on ground outs, sacrifice fly, etc. Some combination of the above.
  3. Exactly Blame the nose http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_VBTn2wvw_Tc/TULQ54sXZHI/AAAAAAAAAQo/AJeUWr13V64/s1600/JP.jpg
  4. ^ Please tell me you're not suggesting there's any causality here
  5. I would consider that but I can't see AA doing anything but sticking with Navarro next year. 2 years ago was the time to sign Martin. We missed a HUGE opportunity. (Of course so did 20+ other teams including the Yankees)
  6. He wasn't a good manager last year either. He just got crazy good performances from every free agent that his GM signed and hardly anyone got hurt.
  7. I wish Pompey was getting some playing time Now that any shred of playoff hope is gone, might Gibby put him out there? Not that 12 games is meaningful but just to get his feet wet. Might as well reduce Bautista's playing time now and give the kid a few starts
  8. The only booing that really bothers me is Vernon Wells Honestly WTF is up with that??? The guy was sent out in a pure cold-hearted salary dump, was visibly hurt because he actually wanted to stay here, and (some) idiots at the RC boo him when he plays in Toronto again???
  9. I think the bat is so good in the 2 spot that if you can sign him for 2-3 years +/- options you do that for sure. Then you feel better with Gose (obviously all glove no bat) in centre and Bautista in right. If some other idiot GM wants to sacrifice a draft pick AND give Melky 4+ years you bite your lip, let him go and collect a draft pick. But then you need an extra OF this off season cause we CAN'T use Gose + Pillar next year under any circumstance.
  10. He and his dad always find plenty of excuses don't they?
  11. I put this in the Colby thread but should be here. Colby is obviously gone this year On a negative note, the Gose/Pillar platoon is not looking so good - neither have convinced me (over the past few weeks, and during their multiple prior callups) that they'll be able to provide even remotely acceptable plate performance even in a strict L/R platoon. 1. We HAVE to retain Melky or find someone as good for a similar price (good luck) 2. We may need to acquire a better 4th OF who bats right. I no longer think we can assume Pillar is even an adequate 4th OF at this point. Yes, he has only had 210 MLB PA, but I just don't see any skills that make me willing to be patient with him. He MIGHT still become an average MLB bat, but he might not. How long do we want to wait to see if that happens, and how many runs/games do we want to sacrifice with mediocre defense and high strikeouts in the meantime?

  13. Best guess: Mentally fragile, doesn't adapt well to changes in coaching staff, distracted/nervous/second guessing all the time.
  14. But can Stanton turn 1,000 balls in to strikes? Noooo So... Something
  15. Of those I think I'd only count on Cecil, Redmond, Loup and maybe Jenkins. Sanchez will be a starter. Nolin will be in AAA. Everyone else, yuck.
  16. Agreed. Though if you let all the BP guys walk (McGowan, Janssen, Santos, Morrow) you need to sign a couple to replace them. So a few $$ will be required.
  17. This was a no brainer though Now, kindly extend him for 3 years 37.5M

  19. I forgot Prado was under contract next year, oops Headley, Drew and Johson were the rentals getting tossed around
  20. He's the guy I wanted most at the time and yes, that package would have been beyond fine. But where would we be with Prado instead of Valencia? Still not in the playoff picture IYAM. Though no worse off except for a few bucks cause Francisco is done with us anyway I'm sure. Yes I wish he had made that deal. But I don't think it would have helped enough. Just IMHO.
  21. Valencia was a reasonably pickup (depending on what you though of Kratz). A solid right hand pen arm wasn't too much to ask. A starting pitcher like Lester/Shark was both enormously expensive and not even clearly necessary so I'm certainly glad he didn't do something crazy like that.
  22. Making a bigger acquisition at the time was still probably the right thing to do, but it wouldn't have worked out or helped our playoff chances enough to make a difference ultimately, so you're right in that sense. Yes, in retrospect, the Yankees wasted prospects trading for pickups that won't get them to the playoffs either. Some will say "at least they tried". Depends how you look at it I guess. YMMV All I know for sure is that I am VERY happy that we hung on to Hutch, Sanchez and Stroman
