  1. So it will be official in less than an hour
  2. Rays need but cannot afford Great success
  3. Soto could easily be the best hitter in baseball for the next decade. But Trout and Betts provide value in areas he won't. Kinda how Miggy was the best hitter in the game for a while even while Trout was more valuable overall.
  4. Guess not Betts and others are 5s and 6s
  5. Yankees are smarter than that. If they don't re-sign him it's because of some combination of cost constraints and concerns about his health Sounds like Lemahieu is their priority and they might not be able to afford much after that if they pay him what he's worth
  6. Wish we could see him playing 3B instead of just stat lines
  7. Where have you been? Good to see you
  8. Oh yeah It's a harmless acquisition Just no great hope that he helps the Jays major league bullpen this year
  9. Writeup on Castro from February: https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/anthony-castro-promising-tigers-pitching-prospect
  10. Some good points I'm all for signing Springer and using Gurriel/catchers as trade chips to aquire a top of the rotation starter Trading for Lindor or Arenado should perhaps be plan B anyway, OR the icing on the cake if you've already improved at SP 2 and CF
  11. He's their highest paid starter at 10M. Damn
  12. Votto never won a thing there and now racks up less than 1 WAR a year for 25 million dollars. Also sad.
  13. Is there anywhere good to track DWL results? The links to it on MLB.com show out of date game info.
  14. Whatever you do, don't accidentally Google "george springer blue jays" like I just did Some of the "articles" that come up sound ridiculous and I don't dare click on them
  15. And in this armchair GM situation, aren't we signing 4-5 WAR Springer to replace Gurriel anyway?
  16. Advantages of trading for him now: 1. He plays for you at age 27 in 2021 during a year you want to contend 2. You have a full year to negotiate a contract extension with him during which time no other team is allowed to negotiate with him 3. If he plays one year for you and walks you get draft pick compensation because guaranteed he'll be given the qualifying offer and reject it. 4. Excitement continues to build for fans and potential free agent recruits
  17. Thats not really 8M extra though Ray was slated to make 9M in 2020 on the contract with Arizona
  18. Right Just like we did with RA Dickey and the Phillies did with Doc
  19. You mean even Montoyo can't find a way to mess it up?
  20. Wheeler remaining contract details 2021 age 31 $22,500,000 2022 age 32 $26,000,000 2023 age 33 $24,500,000 2024 age 34 $23,500,000
  21. Full pillage? Trade a catcher plus a lower level pitching prospect plus a negative contract like Roark for Wheeler Sign Realmuto
  22. Agreed If I want one year of someone older I want Scherzer I would only trade for a rental at trade deadline for a lesser package
  23. Agree on the need for a starter obviously It's hard to see where to aquire a top of the rotation quality SP this off season though. I don't see Bauer happening, every other free agent is a huge step down, and the trade market is tough. Darvish and Snell just had amazing seasons and though they sound like the most likely to be traded the price would be steep I expect.
