    Yeah. It all depends on whether the Jays can convince free agents to take their money instead of someone else's. Seems to be a problem with some of them.

    Sign Springer Trade for Castillo and Suarez in a package like the Mets did for Lindor and Carrasco Lots of ways of improving the team

    Damn I wish I had your optimism I'd love to have both guys on those contracts but I'm not feeling much confidence at this point

    Jeffress would cause me enormous stress in a tight wildcard game and you know Charlie would throw him out there for the 9th inning in a close game no matter how he and the rest of the bullpen had been pitching

    Are they really after a big money "closer"? It seems like they might be. Jeffress walks way too many and has been as up and down as relievers get since he pitched for the Jays many years ago

    Either way if you can get Springer to sign now you just do it. If we end up with 2 guys capable of playing above average MLB caliber CF at some point then that's great. You worry about that "problem" later Obviously Shapiro and Atkins agree or they wouldn't be hard after Springer like they are.

    Possible Austin Martin scenarios if you sign Springer now 1. Martin busts (I certainly hope not) 2. They like Martin better at SS and move him there 3. Martin comes up and plays CF well just as Springer is ready to move to RF due to decline in speed/range 4. Martin progresses rapidly, both he and Springer are awesome CF options in 2 years and you trade one of them No need to worry about where Martin will play at this point

    Telling Vlad he's a first baseman and getting Didi for 3B would be pretty impactful too

    They obviously prefer Kluber 1/11 over Tanaka 3/45 or something like that Unless they plan to keep Tanaka too but I doubt it

    True. And also breeds resentment. You have to balance those things I suppose. Also remind me... Why is Ohtani treated like regular drafted MLB players VS the posted players on free agent type contracts like Darvish and Yamaguchi. Because of the age at which he came over?
