    Yep. In recent interviews Lawrie has talked about the importance to him of becoming a "162 game" player. Don't know if I can see that but if he becomes less reckless and stays in great shape hopefully he at least can avoid seasons with 2-3 long DL stints.

    Bringing the Rajai Davis discussion here where it belongs and out of the Bonifacio thread. Rajai has provided fantastic value this year at a measly 2.5 million dollars. He won't come that cheap next year. He's built his value up. How much to sign Rajai for 2-3 more years? Also, would he accept the job here knowing he won't get a full time play? (Technically, he's always been the 4th OF but seems to play in about 2/3 to 3/4 of games anyway due to injuries to the other 3, his pinch running skills, and due his ability to hit LHP) Could we convince him to stay and platoon with Gose? Is that even a good idea? He'll be 32 next year and can probably get one nice 2-3 year contract before his value plummets. Will it be here? If not, where? Your thoughts please

    You know what? You're probably right. If AA extends Rasmus this off season before the arbitration deadline (which I think he should), the money just might not be there for Rajai. Plus he might insist on a full time job, something we just cant offer, but there are teams that could. I could see him in KC or Philadeplhia actually. We're obviously not going to be able to get him for another season at 2.5 MM. He's built his value up to way more than that. Unless we jettison Melky (unlikely) and decide to platoon Gose and Davis (probably not the best idea anyway), he's probably gone.

    Sure. No one expects him to keep up this offense. But he looks so baseball savvy and smooth at 2B. Like you say, we're not used to that.

    God. Buerhle is a mule and could probably throw 150 pitches with no ill effect.

    No Ricky: Bluejays.com: Toronto's GM remained noncommittal when asked if Romero is a candidate for a callup in September. Instead, Anthopoulos talked about the need for a third catcher and the return of injured pitchers Steve Delabar and Dustin McGowan. Right-handers Drew Hutchison and Kyle Drabek also are expected to return, and whether anyone else makes the cut depends on the amount of available innings.

    The Dodgers are the only team that can seemingly to afford to have too many decent starting pitchers and accept that 2-3 may be on the DL or suspended at any given time. And but DAMN Kershaw has been good.

    That's possible actually. Does he want to be here and try again on a 1 year deal? I hope so. Because also, the "draft pick compensation" tag will really limit his attractiveness to teams this off season if he is given a QO and declines (see Lohse, Kyle). Especially for a guy with such a terrible reliability record. It might just allow AA to get him to agree to a 1-2 year deal at less than usual market value. If so, go for it. You still might get a draft pick in another year or two if he leaves then. And if he's good we have some value for once. The more I think about it, the more that's what I want. JJ on a 1 year deal at well under 14M, with a vesting option for a second year if he reaches an innings threshold or something. Do it Alex.

    Agree. We gave up a lot to get him and even if he's only decent next year I can handle 14M because I don't know who else we can get via free agency on a short term deal. If some other GM decides to gamble and give him a 2-3 year deal, then we have three first round picks.

    It seems like teams aren't giving up much for these late inning relievers. I can sort of see why AA couldn't make a deal he liked for Oliver/Janssen etc.
