    Honest questions for this off season: How much for a quality free agent catcher? How much for Chase Utley? Do you want to keep Johnson for another year at 14M, or upgrade 2B or catcher with a veteran and hope the younger arms rebound? (Romero, Hutch, Morrow, Stroman) Ideally you have the money to do both, and then trade a starter mid season next year if you have too many

    If you could be sure that guys like Morrow, Stroman and Hutch were good to go for the starting rotation next year you could put that 14M to a 1 year deal on a veteran position player (Yankees way, a la Ichiro, Ibanez, Youkilis, etc) but I don't think that's what I'd want to do with it.

    There's no way AA doesn't make him an offer Either the 1 year QO or a 2-3 year deal at lower AAV He won't let him walk for nothing

    Right JJ on a 1 year deal at 14M OR a first round draft pick are both better than letting the Rangers sign him and getting nothing in return

    Yeah it's a small risk to extend the QO. But if he's not traded before the season ends it I think it would be silly not to make the offer. No sense letting him walk for nothing. I'd prefer to "risk" getting JJ at 14M or getting an extra 1st round pick over letting him walk for nothing.

    Well the nice thing if he stays for another year you still might get to cash him for a draft pick after the 2014 season.

    Yeah you could consider 2-3 years at 12ish Million per. But he'd probably prefer the 1 year QO.

    No question AA makes him a qualitying offer. I can live with the result either way. Though have to say I'm intrigued to see how well he could perform next year for us.
