  5. I'm glad you asked!!! - {{AFC submission|t||ts=20130920014719|u=GSnarls|ns=5}} '''The Arencibia Line''' The term "Arencibia (\ahr-ehn-SEE-bee-uh\) Line) refers to an extremely low on base percentage for a professional baseball player. (http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/obp/). On base percentage (OBP) is in an important measure of a hitter's performance, stating what proportion of plate appearances result in the player not getting out. In 2013, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Jonathan Paul (J. P.) Arencibia had an extremely low on base percentage (0.236 at the time of this writing), at a level ranking in the lowest 0.001% in major league baseball history for players qualifying with enough plate appearances. The exact on base percentage for which the term "Arencibia Line" applies is debated, but is generally accepted to be in the vicinity of .250. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=347&d=1379556308 The term is inspired by another baseball statistical reference, the so-called [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendoza_Line Mendoza Line], an infamous reference to a baseball player with a very low batting average The term "Arencibia Line" is a new one, having been born on a popular Toronto Blue Jays message board, felt to have been first posted by a user nicknamed "GordieDougie" A Twitter hashtag #ArencibiaLine has also been used, though at the time of this writing has not started trending significantly ==References== {{reflist}} * http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/arencjp01.shtml J. 7. We are proposing the term "Arencibia Line" I have submitted a page to Wikipedia for review about the term - hopefully it gets accepted We will also use the hashtag #ArencibiaLine in tweets to Zaun and Wilner and others to draw attention to it Let me know if you have other ideas Cheers GSnarls

  21. Yep. I used to feel a bit bad for JP. Not anymore. Not in the least. Can't stand him. Useless and has to go. And just no comprehension of how bad he actually is. Zaun is 100% right in the instance and hopefully he convinces the TV masses that the team will be better off without him.
  22. It should forever be called, in Toronto, the Arencibia line. Good idea.
  23. Holy s*** what a catch -
  24. Wow, I remember the first 3-4 weeks he and Rajai were our only good hitters.
