It proves that the baseball writers:
A) Penalize good players for being on bad teams
Think their own analysis of players based on basic stats is better than WAR
Good things:
Pitching depth
No way we have as many bizarre bad performances from so many players
Rogers has more money
Yankees will be worse (yes, they finally will)
Now that I think about it - There's no way a loophole would exist where a player could refuse a MILB assignment, keep the money from his old club AND sign with a new one. Obviously that can't be possible.
I know. But I want players who want to play hard and win no matter what the situation.
Do I want a top 10 protected pick? Yes. But that's not what Inwant the players thinking about on the field. And of course they don't.
Confusing but I think Ricky can refuse a minor league assignment and become a FA any time, but why would he? No other team is going to pay him anywhere near the 7.5 M x 2 years the Jays are on re hook for.
1. Article XX (. A player with at least 6 years of Major League service time and no contract for the next season is eligible for free agency and may negotiate with any club. CBA, Article XX (.
2. Outright of a three-year player. A player with three years of Major League service who is assigned outright to the minor leagues may 1) refuse the assignment and elect immediate free agency or 2) accept the assignment and elect free agency between the end of the Major League season and Oct. 15, unless the player is returned to the Major League roster before electing free agency. A player who qualified for arbitration as a Super Two in the previous off-season and is subsequently sent outright to the minor leagues may refuse the assignment and elect immediate free agency but may not accept the assignment and elect free agency at the end of the season.
3. Second outright assignment. A player who is assigned outright to the minor leagues for the second time for any subsequent time in his career may 1) refuse the assignment and elect immediate free agency or 2) accept the assignment and elect free agency between the end of the Major League season and Oct. 15, unless the player is returned to the Major League roster before electing free agency.
Awesome, thanks
More guys with options than I expected, but a lot of them are clearly MLB caliber and therefore their options don't matter as much (Delabar, Rogers, Santos)
It's guys like Jeffress and the Perez's that you wish you could stash in AAA
