Trumbo should not have been acquired by a national league team with a good first baseman already there. Really. The Angels had a hard time keeping him in the lineup even with a DH spot and a 1B who was missing a lot of time.

Exactly. Gibby wanted to see how he handled it with no real Win/Loss on the line. And probably wanted him to reach 80 pitches or whatever they had in mind, no matter the results.

There's no way they don't take him He hasn't had a bad outing all spring and he has MLB experience. I like guys who are steady if unspectacular (Redmond, Buerhle) more than streaky guys who blow up with some frequency. Especially when you have the offence to back them up. I hate 10-9 games. Too hard on the nerves and bullpen.
