It's worth noting that nearly everyone was hating on Smoak's contract a year ago. I'd prefer if we could trade Morales because of the roster freedom it would give us, but I wouldn't write him off just yet in general.

Him filling it out nicely and being worth what he'll get are separate issues. I suspect the rumors we've heard are probably not accurate anyway, although he'll still probably get too much.

Durability issues would certainly be a potential problem, but you're also talking about someone who put up a 3.21 xFIP last year as a starter, has never put up over 3.74 in the big leagues, and has ace stuff. I'll take that over Osuna easily, with the same control. Salazar, Stroman, and Sanchez for the next 3 years also is pretty damn sexy if they stay healthy.

The Ks are a little concerning, but the walk rate is there too which helps. But not especially young? He just completed his first season at age 22. I mean, he's not a teenage prodigy, but he's ahead of most guys who come up. He's also a full year younger than Winker.

What don't you like about Happ? He just put up 24 home runs and a 113 wRC+ (1.8 WAR) in 2/3 of a rookie season at age 22, while almost skipping AAA. He also played average to above average defense.

Man, I can't remember there ever being an offseason this slow before. There's going to be some players starting to panic real soon I think.

That doesn't mean anything, other than we needed more pitching really badly. The Marlins top starter next year is probably Straily. That doesn't mean you'd consider him a #1 starter.

Morrow at his best probably performed at about a #3 starter level, ignoring durability. It's nice to see him now transfer that ability to the closer's role, but let's not try to suggest he's a top of the rotation guy even if healthy.

Basically, yeah. We use the spreadsheet over the winter. You can sort of view the other by clicking on your name and then selecting the league. -
It wouldn't matter. As soon as they made the trade, their doctors would find some phantom injury somewhere and cancel it anyway.

I know Wade Davis is awesome, but the Rockies are paying him 17.3M per year AND forfeit their 2nd round pick in the draft. This does not seem wise.

Of course there's a difference in size and strength (most of the time), and the ability to force your will on others. But that doesn't mean the players themselves aren't sexually assaulted either. It could also possibly suggest to a young player from a different culture that it's normal behavior when they're subjected to it, and they may not see it as being wrong. That does NOT excuse them doing it though.
