Apparently after the game he said he deserved the technical. Guess it was what he said, rather than how he said it. Good on him for owning up to it.

I wouldn't mind us potentially claiming Burch Smith and Alex Meyer either. Meyer is still pre-arbitration, so even if the shoulder is a problem all year you can simply stick him on the DL. High (but low cost) risk, high reward situation. Smith has had good success in the minors, can throw upper 90s, and is also pre-arbitration.

I would have been okay with us giving him that to be a reliever. His relief numbers were passable, outside of a really ugly home run rate.

He's put up 11 goals against me this week in WTPDL, and the game isn't over yet.

The years are fine. The contract isn't significant enough to kill the team if it doesn't work out, and the potential reward far exceeds the risk at that AAV, particularly if it isn't backloaded much. Realistically he earns the paycheck even in a #5 starter, innings eater role. Anything beyond that is pretty much profit for the team.

Now that's what I want to see from a player who does something dumb. Own up to it and ask forgiveness, rather than try to make any excuses or deny it. -

I think people basically see Diaz as a 1.5 WAR bench player at a cheap cost, with 4 years of control left. There's a LOT of value in that. I would have liked to see us get a guy more like Tony Kemp maybe, basically a Diaz of the outfield who could also cover 2nd if needed.

Yeah, with his durability issues that seems a little unwise. Something like 3/36 would make me a lot more interested. Maybe an option year based on innings.
