While he may have taken less contract value, I believe the marketing deals for Japanese players are a lot higher if it's on the west coast where the games are at a better time for viewing in Japan. This likely more than makes up for the dollar difference. He may also have grown up a Seattle fan watching Ichiro, who knows.

I think she just didn't expect him to respond, then didn't know what to do when he did. I don't think athletes or anyone else should have to just sit there and take it, as long as they don't cross the line when firing back.

If you use baseball-reference (or something else) you can see the breakdown for those leagues. That's one of the most annoying things about Fangraphs imo.
