  1. Braves must be a lot less for him to have not signed from what he's been saying at least
  2. German gefistet to the tune of 81 games total, 18 already served.
  3. He got $10M more than Eloy too. And almost $40M more than Tim Anderson (Which I at least understand) so he has $1M left? Buscones, agents, citizenship...sounds like a $25M price tag to me. White Sox invested $52M in that bonus after the penalties. I completely understand why they are doing it. A lot could go wrong now and they still could be the new Astros by 2021
  4. No it's not franchise crippling or even that bad, but it certainly hurts their arb/extension discussion with Moncada (and you just gave him more than you gave Eloy). I know that Chicago wants to give the impression that they are competing this year, but the month of Robert isn't going to turn that needle (especially since they are not actually going to compete). The only good argument would be a change to the CBA...but it's not like the players have a good history in CBA negotiations. I think Robert's best comp is Joey Gallo. Gallo would need about $44M in his last two arbitrations to get to $50M. Boras is good...but not that good. I think the deal is fine. I just don't agree with Nick that all the risk is from the player.
  5. He'd have to be in the top 2% to earn $50M in his first 6...but zero reason to dick around with his service time now and no need to deal in arbitration. I think Chicago comes out a little behind in the first 6 on this one...but it's pretty small in the end. It will all depend on his value in those two options
  6. And the number 3 prospect is locked up at 6 years $50M with two $15M options. Not a huge fan of this amount but always good to lock up spects
  7. I don't think they have any reason to go away from their guy no matter what his age or background is. There is really only one draft rule that a few GMs have broken and it caused them issues, which is you don't go heavy HS one year and then go heavy College the next year. It's always a good thing to have multiple draft choices work out but you don't want to have to add 10 to the 40 man in one year. Cubs ran into this in around 2010-11 (although they went heavy into the International pool and then had some real success in a couple straight drafts. They ended up trading a bunch of prospects and still lost Marwin Gonzalez in the rule 5.
  8. Remember that time J4L killed the forum awards?
  9. If compensation is going to bring up stupid conversations about morals I'd like to say we have to keep it. Cause Boxy going off on a rant about dead people entertains me. I have zero say in the integrity of this league as I ditched my team in order to participate in a dispersal draft in order to get my first playoff appearance. So if you want to change my vote to "I don't care" or I'll change it to "I vote no compensation if JimCanuck would just shut the f*** up about it". Welcome back Speedy!
  10. Too old (over 30 usually can't get work and travel visas), Too Canadian (My parents, grandparents, their grandparents are all born in Canada despite my UK heritage I'm not eligible). So I'd need to be sponsored for a work permit which would cost them £1000 (And I have to pay £244) . Which for a short contract is probably not worth the headache as my skills for this role are good but not something that is way beyond what other Euros would have. Essentially the UK can't keep Euros out so they are making it tough and expensive for non Euros.
  11. Jump to 2020
  12. Can't Stop this Thing We Started ...oh wait yes I can Do I Have to Say the Words? Please Forgive me!
  13. I interviewed with Euro 2020 (Glasgow) 2 weeks ago. I don't think I did well and I can't get a VISA but would be a cool event to work.
  14. We will agree to disagree. While I'll agree that years of some of the worst drafting in baseball did nothing to turn a decade of sub .500 ball into a good farm. They traded Stanton, Ozuna, Yelich and Realmuto and did not receive one high impact top 10 prospect (Sixto Sanchez and Brinson probably being the closest). They chose instead to take players like Castro, Alfaro. They traded their 2017 International money. The only move that they did which is really that different from what they did in the past was sign the Mesa's (which is unfortunately looking bad as well). You could commend them for selling high on Gallen for Chisholm or you could say that you had a low ceiling pitcher take a leap and out pitch everyone in the PCL and you dealt him for Jazz Chisholm. My original comment was that they should try and harvest the cheap 28 - 32 year olds and turn them into Nick Anderson type deals.
  15. Bill Caudill was not a free agent
  16. when did the "rebuild" start?
  17. Only Bob could see what the Marlins have done since 2012 as prioritizing their big league club
  18. We lose the top 10 protection of the 2021 pick if he's not a top 5 signing. So if Donaldson signs for more than $20M AAV 2021 is still up in the air.
  19. Most of the Asian contracts allow the player to be a free agent after. Nori Aoki I know was granted free agency after his contract. If you look at Tsutsugo on Cot's it says that he is a free agent after 2021. Ohtani never got a major league contract and he will go through the same system as any baseball players. Give it a few days and Cot's will have details.
  20. At least if he shows that he is a major league player (I don't think he is) he is around for 4 more years and still under 30 for all of those. I think you have to try and at least get something out of him, Diaz, Harrison or Yamamoto. Just because you gave up a Franchise player for them.
  21. Brinson, Sierra and Berti are still their CF options (Villar as well I suppose). It's the Harold Ramirez era which has come to an end.
  22. Marlins are a team full of 28 to 32 year olds who are pretty much completely unproven commodities. What is a best case scenario for them in the next four or so years? Most of them click and build some trade value and you start all over again. They have Sanchez and Harrison burning options in the minors. They have Berti, Sierra and Cooper moved to the bench...for what? Corey Dickerson, Matt Kemp (potentially) and Jesus Aguilar! Just a terribly built team.

Canada once again shows it is the classless country of the hockey world.
  24. Whoever wrote that for such a big trade most players were horrible couldn't have been more correct. Seven seasons after the trade we have the following fWAR leaderboard: Reyes 9.6 Disco 8.5 Yunel 8.1 Buehrle 7.9 Marisnick 6.1 Alvarez 5.2 Hech 4.6 Bonificio 0.7 Mathis 0.6 Josh Johnson 0.4 John Buck -0.6 Not too much
  25. Franchise value went from $900M to $1.30B in 2017 (after not much increase in 2016), so i can see that. Hopefully they realize after another big jump last year that it's not always tied to hype.
