I really believe that the 26th man addition renders what Porcello has become, virtually useless, it will take a year or two to see that. I think he should take the 3 year deal and plan for his 2023 retirement. I'd love to know where he thinks he can play to renew his value.

I remember saying the same thing about SD last year how they were projected around 21 and I figured they could end up much higher. Including the 5th best defense in the majors last year...they ended up at 13.4 with an 88 wRC+. Guessing the Jays next year would be incredibly tough, especially now before we actually know the roster.

Renfroe was 22 Defensive Runs Saved last year, playing all three OF defensive positions. That's elite D. It's 2.5 win difference in defense alone potentially. They hope that he recovers from a .240 BABIP and cuts the K's a little and still hitting 30 bombs. It's $5M saved and added a prospect with a huge drop in production but probably less overall than we think. This one will be judged by what they do with the savings.

Listened a podcast today about how baseball can make the winter meetings more interesting. Why don't they just make it a signing dark period from end of the World Series until this Sunday. Other ideas discussed were signings that happen during the meetings get a small 1 year discount from the luxury tax calculation (which I hate cause it just benefits a few teams). Anyway Monday should have some activity. Anyone from the board heading to San Diego this year?
