  1. If the umps strike zone is going to be that big...I'll change that prediction
  2. Cobb the only non-Dominican pitching in the wild card...we all know that Dominicans can't pitch when it matters though. Rays with 6 runs by the 5th. CRFC lives!
  3. Does anyone actually believe that Melky in LF means zero chance of winning?
  4. This current F.O. can't/shouldn't be the ones to rebuild. They have to win or be gone...then let someone new come in and play the PR game on a rebuild. Selling a rebuild to a fanbase is much easier when you can play it off as cleaning up someone else's mess.
  5. Depth wins in baseball. As for Theo, I was always a fan, I would love to know how much of the decision making was his and how much was ownership. Cubs will be a good team they don't have payroll constraints, they don't have really bad contracts and while I could see them acquiring one or two I don't think they will go too overboard. Only thing is that I don't see the Reds, Pirates or Cards going away any time soon.
  6. I wish bad things upon people I don't know all the time, many on this board even. Personally I await The Band Perry's song about a douchebag called "Passed Ball"
  7. and if MDR returns to the 83 wRC+ that he put up against lefties in 2012? Honestly he put up a 14% BB rate with 15% HR/FB rate...he's not going to repeat either of those stats IMO. People have to stop seeing the 25th man as a throw away spot...MDR got 230 PA's out of that spot this year. He also had his best hitting year since 2008 and was still only replacement level, yes I believe that if he only faces lefties he'll put up a better slash line than his current, but I could say the same about almost every right-handed hitter in baseball. Take a look at some of the 3B's that had better than or similar wRC+ as DeRosa against lefties (with 50 PA's) Chris Johnson Josh Satin Ed Lucas Trevor Plouffe Cody Ranson Juan Uribe Throw in SS Jordy Mercer and 2B's Kevin Frandsen & Tony Abreu...1B's Baker, Gaby Sanchez, Blanks and Frieman. I will state it again...there will be minor league deals available for guys with better defense than MDR who can hit lefties just as well as MDR did in his best season in 5 years.
  8. I know at least one Torontoian that has slept with him but that was when he was engaged to the last girl.
  9. Hech goes back to league minimum next year I believe. We paid him $8.25M of his $10M. Marisnick's AA performance put him back into prospect status even if his pro debut wasn't great. At a minimum he's going to be a guy that faces lefties, runs well and plays solid D. Assuming we are keeping Rasmus he's a million times better fit for this team than Gose right now. Nicolino's K's dropped off but he still had good results. Value is value and everyone who went to Florida has as much or more value now than when we traded them except for Hech.
  10. Answer is in the Matchup date. It's over September 29th.
  11. yeah I just noticed that Min was up in OBP by percentage points. I thought it was the other way around. Congrats to Fear The Doc on his victory
  12. wow just realized that Posey could end this before the Pence AB
  13. I didn't look at pitchers to see if any of the finishing up games are a factor but if not I do believe that the upcoming Pence AB decides the championship
  14. two relievers got Ian Kennedy....if you ignore the B comp pick that went in the deal too. Rzep had an 8.00 ERA and got a nice little 20 year old defensive SS. Houston got a couple interesting young players for Veras but agreed there wasn't much of a market this year but then again our relievers were a lot better than Veras.
  15. This is where I somewhat agree with old school thinking. You don't offer a veteran player a major league contract and then try and sneak him through waivers and send him down (also he has the right to refuse the assignment) if you aren't giving him the spot, then sign him to a minor league contract.
  16. of the 90 win teams the following guys spent time as the 6th or 7th infielder. Boston - Broke the season with Isglesias & Ciriaco (cut), Bogaerts now in the role and they brought in Johnny Mac for 6 PA's and some defense in September. Tampa - Sean Rodiguez, Ryan Roberts Detroit - Ramon Santiago (and a bunch of OF that can play like Don Kelly) Cleveland - Aviles A's - Eric Sogard Most of these teams have players that can play IF in a pinch as OF's and only go with one back up infielder. They all have some upside. All keeping MDR does is insures that Goins is in the minors and the Jays will once again have two back up infielders with the best defensive one in the minors. At least DeRosa might retire and bail us out...or that will leave a spot for Jamey Carroll or Johnny Mac.
  17. AA can convince him out of it still like he did last year.
  18. My point is that Goins is much better suited to being a 25th man than any of the others. Where he'll be doesn't matter, he's a better defensive player at 2B, SS and 3B than MDR. Having Macier (under contract for 2 more) and MDR while keeping Goins in AAA just because he has options is a horrible horrible horrible (I probably can't stress this enough) roster management. There are probably 25 Mark DeRosa's that will accept minor league deals and battle with Goins for that 25th spot. This is little s*** but it's the s*** that AA has been horrible at. Stop wasting spots on guys that have zero upside. Have some f***ing clue about roster management...it's not that much to ask as a fan.
  19. He really should have made the request during the O's series...I liked him throughout his career and if I were there today I'd give him a nice applause but he's probably not the kind of guy that deserves a special start.
  20. now I can rant on two threads. Things that could be done with MDR...minor league deal, coaching staff offer, broadcast offer, season ticket holder...anything but giving him a spot in the lineup.
  21. The fact that Macier is here is the reason this is so bad...and was so bad this past season (is considerably worse for next season). We have 2 25th men as it is with Goins and Macier! If you need MDR to babysit than f***ing well put him on the coaching staff. If you want to replace Zaun and Hayhurst because they are mean to JPA than hire MDR for the booth...wasting a spot on the 25 man on him is just f***ing stupid!!!
  22. I know I could have put this in any thread but this is truly unreal and deserving of a thread! Even if it's just the place I will come back to for ranting about the head office.
  23. he was throwing 90 so he's got velocity...then you figure he didn't get a college offer (that I know of) so he must have developed late. I'm pretty sure he's a org guy that will probably spend like 7 years with Vancouver but still a cool story
