  1. shouldn't be a big enough commit to walk away from first round money. Besides does he really want to play with this... http://youtu.be/yLuI7Ov-r84
  2. I didn't realize that Nolasco was such a under-performer to his FIP. He hasn't out-performed his FIP since 2008. He's not quite Morrow but it's close.
  3. Part of me thinks...do I really want a 33 year old Nolasco blocking Sanchez? But these things tend to work themselves out before it ever gets to that point.
  4. Is anyone willing to move down in the waiver picks in exchange for moving up in MiLB picks? If yes, let me know.
  5. I remember when a few people first started talking about Stroman (on the old board) as the Jays first rounder. Despite being a Duke fan I immediately scoffed calling him a reliever. Then I watched him pitch, against Clemson, and I couldn't get how he threw so hard without being a true max effort guy. I was immediately a Stroman guy after that. I've been pretty negative about certain short pitchers (a midget reliever now in KC comes to mind), but good mechanics is at least something I understand...the physics of it all I do not. Thanks for breaking down the mechanics Kyle. Is your injury projection system available to the public? You've delved into some fascinating stuff that should be of interest to both fans and F.O.s
  6. since when is cash not an asset? I shouldn't point you out specifically as we all (including myself) say it in baseball terms. It's just something that's been slightly misused.
  7. with the weight he's been putting on that could take a while
  8. I still think Navarro is the back up plan for AA. Completely unpredictable, coming off a career year and, although AA would have no clue, he's just a slightly below average framer. There is still the Red Sox, Rangers and Angels to compete with and they are all said to be interested in Salty and Pieguy. If the Jays have any interest in Navarro they probably should grab him now before those two make up their mind.
  9. I know people see Baez waiting in the wings and say "trade Castro" but I don't see Theo being concerned about that at this point. He likes to hoard assets and he showed that he's more than willing to trade a fan favourite if Castro does find his game again.
  10. I didn't realize having 17 guys on the 60 day DL was flexibility. Drabek added to the 40 man in September 2010 - No option used 2011 - June to Sept in minors (Option 1) 2012 - no time in the minors 2013 - Minors from June 22 to August 30 (Option 2).
  11. Nice recognition. Any stats on hits so far?
  12. I can assure you that I have never worked for a professional baseball team. I have been asked if I want to be the 3B coach for the Barrie Baycats next year though.
  13. They should scour places like Princeton for their interns...they are lining up to make $11/hour after the internship is over.
  14. post topless pic with a "BTS makes my panties wet" sign or we will have to assume that you are just a troll. I've been advocating throwing out virtually the same roster most of the off-season. More starting pitching depth instantly makes the team in a better position than last year and really my expectations are so low I'd take a lucky run and hope for a lot of recovery seasons.
  15. The 29 GM's that didn't take him in the 2010 Rule 5 draft.
  16. And you wonder why no one likes you
  17. in short. Makes moves for PR, without thought of baseball. Either that or he's really over his head and no smarter than the casual fan.
  18. Did they ever confirm Sano's real age? I don't think they ever did. The power is legit and if he can find a position where he doesn't kill the team, he might end up much more Stanton than I think (not to mention that being Pedro Alvarez isn't the worst thing a prospect could end up). 80 power is 100% legit. I think I watched him in 3 games last year and he kept watching strike three so it was tough for me to judge him. I really struggle to get behind prospects who aren't improving an already bad K-rate. If Bryant doesn't improve next season I'll probably jump off that bandwagon too
  19. BA has called Marisnick's defense and arm elite and among the best in the minors. That alone puts him above "Sucks" you are also judging him on a season where he was coming off surgery and broke his hand in spring training. he still managed to put up a .294/.358/.502 line in 300 PA's in AA. Yes his aggressiveness got exploited in the majors on a two level jump but he'll get a half year in Vegas and will, at a minimum, put himself into a position of high trade value. Nicolino still has #3 upside...smooth delivery guys that know how to change speeds are valuable in this league. If the curve develops or he adds a slider (like he tried at the end of next year) he's still going to be a starter in the bigs.
  20. Don't know. I hear s*** all the time like this. Sometimes it ends up being a twitter rumour (only thing about Nolin on Twitter is his girlfriend posting bikini shots from the Dominican) or just off some stupid blog somewhere. I'm not saying there is any validity to this at all. Exact texts "jays offered up nolan in a deal" my response "Ryan?" Him: "Shawn" Me: "Sean Nolin?" Him: "f*** spelling, no word on who to or who they talked about" Him: "Did you hear the jays talked to the dodgers about kemp. Maybe that is who"
  21. Funny that we are talking about wasting Nolin's option and Leaffie asking me to spread my wisdom. I just got a text (from someone who has zero sources in the organization but like myself has a lot of friends in ball) saying that the Jays have discussed a trade where they offered up Nolin. He says that he has no idea who for or even a team. Mets asked for him before...could be them.
  22. It would not. You burn an option when you spend 20 days in the minors after being added to the 40 man. I'd like to add to BTS' list is AA's 40 man management (including Nolin). I started in 2011 talking about how it was a mess...mostly because of all the relievers. Dealing assets for non-assets just to make room for a player is not good roster management. I think it's 3 straight off-seasons now where he kept a reliever on the 40 man who would be missing virtually the entire next season. Cut bait on these minor assets (f*** Luis Perez, there are a million of him out there).
  23. I would say that there are a core 10 posters who started to think there were chinks in the armour throughout the 2012 and certainly by the time the Happ and Snider deals happened there were many questioning if he actually had a vision, or was he just spinning the tires. There was a lot of resistance and the comments weren't as strong as there are now but it was there. I remember when I started telling everyone that TdA was going to be traded (last August is when I first heard it), 95% of the board didn't believe it despite the fact that I'm almost never wrong.
  24. Make sure that you mention they are from MLC. They aren't known for their accurate data. I just wouldn't go and say it's 100% factual. On stats like swinging and looking they are probably pretty accurate but they are just taking their stats from pitch by pitch data. I know the GB rates and stuff like that aren't anywhere close to 100% (but it's never stopped me from quoting them). Excellent work so far guys. Loved the concept of the blog and think it's great choices as writers.
  25. Short-term you are probably correct. Daniels may look for a couple of nice years from him and flip him again. Seeing as Kinsler wasn't going to provide positive value and is more than replaceable for them it comes down to them signing Fielder to less than a 7 year $138M contract (assuming the $30M is paid right now it has slightly more value than that). It's still not a good contract but I think they are better offensively right now. If Daniels can convince Prince to DH full time it would be big for them.
