  1. I think the point of this thread is that Cleveland sees him as a long term solution. Projection sites don't have him anywhere near the 131 wRC+ but still way above the average catcher. The lowest he's ranked is 11th by WAR. There appears to be something that casual fans, fantasy players and TBJ executives all missed (but may still be right as there isn't a large sample size to go by) Plus he could be replacement level for the next 4 years and still have a better career than JPA.
  2. If they were an organization that believed in scouting via stats than I'd give them a free pass here. However, Gomes projected to be very similar to JPA in the majors, so why name JPA starter and send Gomes as a throw in? Honestly a team dumping Gomes makes complete sense in my mind. I watched just about every Vegas game that 2012 season...unfortunately I seldom got to see Gomes play catcher cause TdA was there. When TdA got hurt they still split Gomes with Phillips, so that Gomes could continue to work on his 3B skills. The biggest question here is whether they are actually scouting their mistakes. Do they use their 16 million major league scouts to look at Gomes and see why he's striking out 20% less with the Indians than what he did with the Jays? Do they send their army of scouts to look at Wojc and see why he's K'ing 32% more batters than he did while with with the Jays (while walking the same)? Did they look at a reliever, that they let go in the Farrell deal, was one of the best relievers in the game and think "wow anyone who can average 95 MPH can be an effective reliever maybe we don't have to horde them?"
  3. Now you f***ed up that for him
  4. Not to mention...Bautista as a 24 year old put up a .280/.360/.490 line in the minors and his worst minor league season was as good as Sierra's worst.
  5. My comment was much more to do with the statement the Jays let Gomes go because of awareness that this isn't acceptable.
  6. Think about that statement for just a second....now go back and delete.

My anti-Leafs stance has grown so much since going back to school cocky 20 year old Leaf fans everywhere.

I'm such a horrible fan...I get way more joy out of the Leafs losing than I do when the Sens play well.
  9. I was very anti-Gomes and I'm sure there are plenty of posts on the old board where I said he had zero value. Guys that strike out 25% of the time in AA and AAA tend to strike out close to 30% of the time in the majors (pretty close to what Gomes was in his 100 PA run here). To survive with that K Rate you have 4 chances of being successful, big BABIP, a s*** tonne of power, great D or cut the K's. Historically the only guys that cut their K's from the minors to the majors are guys that as they have moved up, improved their K rates. I might add one more thing to that list...leave an org that doesn't seem to care about K-rates. I admit when I'm wrong and I've gone full Gomes, owning him as my only catcher in one dynasty league.
  10. Question is why not? Why was he able to move up to the majors and put up a lower K-rate than he did in the high minors. Why did we move him off of catcher, when he's getting really good reviews from the metrics as well as the scouts? Sometimes players just find their game, sometimes it's just a lucky few months...but overall another org sees enough in him to commit to him for the rest of the decade and we saw little in him over 5 years.
  11. I love deals like this. Truly they are pretty low risk and two of these 6 years are option years. Alex Avila will make $2.9, $4.8 and $5.2 over his arbitration years. Pretty sure that was the comp used.
  12. I'd like to dispute this

  15. Tuffy Rhodes shows why he's still the f***ing man! 468 HR's after the age of 27 (in Japan) and an all around good guy.
  16. I never said that Rogers isn't raking...it's that Rogers is raking at the same or less than what they were when the payroll was lower. Rumour was that 2013 it was $39 million which is still middle of the pack for MLB. The best estimates I saw about TV rights was that on the open market it's estimated that the Jays would probably draw between 80 and 100 million on a 20 year deal. Which would lose that network money for the first few years of the deal. I'll find the article and post it
  17. That's sort of what I'm saying...the Jays are s*** scared to fracture the fanbase IMO. So they do what they can to get Bautista to request the trade. All it takes is for AA to talk about lacking veteran leadership in some interview and have his go to sportswriter write that they think Bautista isn't pulling his weight on the leadership end and have AA not truly publicly support it and that should be enough to blow Jose up.
  18. My theory was that if the team is struggling the F.O. will allow/instruct the media to be negative about him this year so they can trade him. If the media in Toronto is negative about Jose you know he'll go off.
  19. Bautista
  20. Value of the team went up a solid percentage at least. People have to still look at that loss as a loss, they always showed a small profit in the past. They increased costs considerably for a very small revenue increase. Long term when the non baseball guys look at future payroll...they can see payroll goes up but income does not, no more increases (although the valuation does help even things out a bit). I remember a couple people talking about this last year and getting shut down.
  21. plus one game for each grey hair Selig deems you caused.
  22. This was started by one of my classmates. He got some players to retweet it
  23. This is why I never have good pitchers...when one of my pitchers gets hurt it barely matters.
  24. if an ACL flies into the crowd are you allowed to keep it? For the record I have a friend still selling 2 more tickets for the opener. Row 8 seats 3 and 4 section 519. $50 each
