It's the FSL team history too. The better deal is thought to be a shared facility with the Astros in Palm Beach Gardens. This was about building a year round facility and people that they have hired (from admin people to coaches) are in the area now asking them to move 4 hours away might mean that they lose people they don't want to lose. In the end it looks like the team has to kick in $15M and find a new place for the FSL team for 2018 and have to remain with two separate facilities for the stadium and training facility. Atlanta kicked in way less in their deal with Sarasota, which is why Shapiro said that there were better deals out there but "Dunedin was a fit".

Not sure if it was talked about elsewhere but Jays are about to get their deal with Dunedin done. Not a great deal, there would have been much better elsewhere but good on Shapiro to not take the better deal and stick it out with the site where there is history.

Adidas combine promotion blows up in their face as John Ross beats Chris Johnson's forty record but he doesn't get the Island as he was wearing Nike. Now Nike can step up and do any promotion they want with the guy and get press off of Adidas' idea. Can the Exec who's idea it was live on the Island after his ass is fired.

I will second this. I love Ottawa even if I just lived there for weekends for about 6 months. Traffic is s*** there now though.

My first reaction was wow. But then when you see the document they are handed...it's pretty obvious and it says "no fantasy sports gambling of any kind". There is a quick list card of common violations that all scholarship athletes are given. My friend's son has just accepted a golf scholarship to Drexel and he has to delete/deactivate his Youtube accounts too, as it would be too easy to get around rules by getting boosters to support them through youtube hits. I hate that the NCAA is cut and dry about their rules no matter what the investigation comes up with but now think of it this way...it may have been a $100K buy in fantasy pool where boosters are throwing it. The best thing they can do is start paying kids but the tiered system created would probably ruin certain schools.

It would be interesting to see the same crew to have done one without the fantasy value side of it (doing it by predicting future fWAR instead). And compare in 5 years. I think you'd find there is similar results for most of the lists.

I don't like answers like this one on Barretto though: I'd rather hear why (could be his defense is elite in his opinion, I'm okay with that) and not just generic responses. He will answer questions and admits that he sometimes just has guys he's seen so he'll rank them higher. Individual lists like this are always going to be a little different than consensus.

Blame Ortiz for that one. He refused to adhere to it and said go ahead and fine me every single at bat, I want to keep my mental advantage over a pitcher. That was pretty much the ending of that rule as they never fined him or anyone. For the record this little rule change didn't enrage the MLBPA. Tony Clark is one of the few that seems to understand things. He just doesn't like Manfred saying he can unilaterally make changes without the PA's approval. Telling current players that in 10 to 15 years players might get paid less than NHL players isn't going to bother a whole lot of current ballplayers. It's part of the reason the MLBPA doesn't work IMO.

Honestly what will the 2021 TV contract look like? ESPN has lost like 7 million subscriptions in 2015 & 16 and were on pace to lose 7 million more this year. The playoffs will always be valuable but in another 4 years what will TV even be like...what percentage will be paying for it? MLB AM will be funding the revenue stream by 2022. And all anyone wants to do is bitch at Manfred for wanting to change the game. He is the only one saying that the game needs change, so until someone else starts talking about it and coming up with ways to add new young fans...well he's going to unilaterally make the changes.
