  1. Love Scott Boras. Everyone assumes that only time to negotiate is during contract times...but he knows how to use the media to constantly be negotiating. This is all setting up his next move a la Gerrit Cole...extension or trade (which after his feud with Stroman might be Sanchez's end goal!
  2. they admitted it was. Not to mention it's from their Twitter background photo
  3. Rockies had their best win of the year yesterday.
  4. having a player injured by his backup could have been one of the greatest stories though
  5. While the Kiermaier contract should be a huge value win, I thought it was a slight overpay (as Havok said, defense is paid poorly in arbitration). Still a great move locking down the most handsome man in baseball from a customer service point of view and considering they have no one other than Longoria and Archer locked up it gives the fans a little hope that they will spend.
  6. Found the history of the rule. Put in for the 2008 Olympics, Baseball Canada (and all the PSO's) put it in for the 2009 season. Someone in the comments on the ESPN page said that fastball started using the rule in the 80's.
  7. I'm maybe mixing up my slo pitch days and my baseball days. I don't remember any long marathon games though. I started running the Green and Gold in 2007 and I know we've had at least 3 extra innings semi-finals & Finals all settled this way.
  8. They answered no. It's equal. My only question is has no one ever played a tournament with these rules? All tournament playoff games for as long as I remember were settled this way. In youth ball I think every road team ends up starting with a bunt.
  9. IBAF rules trickle down to virtually every level of baseball. I've seen teams eliminated from a Provincial Championship because of rain cancelling a game defensive runs per inning decide an unbalanced round robin group. Tough way to lose and forces teams to open tournaments with their best pitchers.
  10. I find it's kind of a reverse of Toronto, many of Toronto's worst fans are actually at the park and the better ones stay home. The best Sox fans are in the stadium.
  11. It's tough to invest much effort, time or money into it though. a deep run might have some impact on baseball in Canada, but no where near the impact that the Jays have had in the past two years. So you send the invites out and if they say "no" you don't push the issue or offer them first class flights and upgraded everything like Israel did. The end result isn't worth it here. It's not embarrassing at all to me, it's a product of the system.
  12. As I said before I'm sure Canada could dig and find connections but then you are undermining guys you need for tournaments with legit eligibility. Can't say "sorry Malo, we just found out that that Addy Russell has a Canadian cousin, you are out....but because apparently you are the only Shortstop in this country (not including Russell Martin), we need you to leave your semi professional team for Pan Am qualifying".
  13. The PL is the first time I've had any piece of Desmond. He'll have issues all season guaranteed.
  14. Nice little shot of him having the Blue Jays yardage card. Nice win for him.
  15. Very few helmets fit well (especially in the lower levels where multiple kids wear the same helmet). It was stopped in minor league ball as it was leading to other safety issues. Fitted helmets in the minors and majors...it's probably for the same reasons people have discussed (comfort and look)
  16. Now change the word pitchers to workers in a mine. Does it still work for you?
  17. NJH gets all exclusive Friday and Saturday night negotiations with TCA until a trade is made.
  18. I'll work on it but they haven't hired anyone in 4 years. Tennis Canada has 170 Full-time employees, Golf Canada around 100, Hockey Canada 200+, Curling Canada 50...Baseball Canada 7 (including the head coach). They have good partnerships with the Jays (and MLB), UnderArmour, Dairy Queen, Rogers, RBC. I don't get why they aren't bigger.
  19. Don't forget Vlad Jr.....they have to lock him up before the DR does.
  20. Canada seldom seems to recruit like those other countries do as well. Freeman and Taillon made it clear they would like to represent Canada before they were asked. There has to be a shitload of MLB players that would qualify for Canada with these loose qualification rules.
  21. Canada qualifying for basketball was a cakewalk in the media and fans eyes. Never in Basketball Canada's eyes. As for the WBC, it's not like Canada becomes a favourite if all their top talent makes the trip. As there is no funding (for winning) tied to the WBC, Baseball Canada is probably better off going with a youth movement so that some of these minor leaguers might help them with qualifying/Winning tournaments for tournaments where there is funding tied to it (PanAm, Olympics, Commonwealth Games if they decide to put it back in). Forget about the Gagne's of the world. Get the Cal Quantril's, Zach Pop's, Andy Yerzy's working with Baseball Canada that is way more important from a non fans view.
  22. Could use a Rick Jeanneret "MayDay" call here.
  23. They are MLB approved now, so probably as soon as they are inexpensive enough that teams at all levels can use them and pitchers are used to them before they are drafted.
  24. Bad facial hair - check wears a cape - check fabric belt - check. you pretty much nailed his look
  25. The Cajun part of Puerto Rico.
