and I hear that he pounds the Strikezone and has a plus change. Going to happen a lot with JUCO guys where you get multiple different reports...although he was D1 last year. His velo has increased every year and he has a mature body. LSU promised him Friday starts next year which puts him ahead of Eric Walker, Zach Hess and Caleb Gilbert.
Has refused to work out with any teams past 22 causing speculation that the Jays have a deal with him if he lasts to them. I like the pick. FB and Change up Combo, breaking pitches don't matter.
I've never thought there was much of difference between A and High A. I don't think it does anything to their development to keep them in Lansing...but I suspect they will make the leap soon.
after going to that talk with the Director of Mental Skills, it would seem that it's very Cub to not draft him. They actually have the Mental Skills team very involved in the draft and interview 100's of players. It didn't seem right to me but they really do view "fit" highly at all levels.
I actually have a wager with someone saying that Bird will have more minor league PA's than major league, and he better do it cause I don't want to wear that Yankees onesie to a game next year.
I love Manfred. Most commissioners would just brush this under the rug as a Human Rights Tribunal in another country where the team doesn't even play (and I've met Douglas Cardinal several times and I think he's a self serving ass and I'd throw out anything the man says so I don't agree with the methodology used for issuing the complaint). But Manfred actually says "this is an ongoing problem...maybe that f***ing cartoon logo is an issue.
You also have to remember that when they started negotiating with him he was at least a 100 wRC+ guy. It was after the contract that he had like a .250 OBP and 75 wRC+. I always think back to JFaS talking so positively about Smoak when he came over from Seattle. It was all about FB/HR ratios I think and he was positive he'd hit 30. I can't say I saw it coming, it also wouldn't surprise me if suddenly he's 2016 Smoak moving forward.
It really is fun. Omaha is one of my dream trips (which seems wrong to say) I've been to games in Houston (Rice), LSU and Ole Miss and they were all great experiences. The couple of games I've been to in the north were less exciting. I was pushing the games on to everyone and I haven't watched anything but highlights either. I was prepared for Vandy and Clemson today and they were rained out.
I thought Jesus or Matt Moore were #3 on most lists that year.
For Lawrie from what I can find
BA - 40
MLB - Not top 50
Project Prospect - NR (and produced some of the best threads)
BP 57
KLaw 37
Fangraphs 34
Looking to move up into the top 4. Will move 9, 17 and 30 to get there. If not picks 30, 50, 70 and 90 are likely available for future or waiver upgrades.
