I have three guys I'm considering with about 30 backups lol.
I think I'm going to hold off on taking the guy I talked about earlier and nab him at 61 or 93, he should still be available. I will instead take a similar prospect who is a little more mature.
Without a doubt, yes. Lots of (less serious) fans seem to think we missed out on a lot of stuff by not signing two first round picks in recent years and that it's a big blemish on AA's record. Couldn't be further from the truth.
It's probably fair to say that Stroman is in the Majors and contributing earlier than Beede would have, had he signed with us. And I actually didn't want Bickford to sign last year (some people think the Blue Jays didn't want to sign him either), he didn't seem like a premium prospect.
I posted and emailed Silvergun. Finnegan's nice.
I like the focus on college pitching. It's neat that most people seem to have a specific type of prospect they target. Adds character to the draft.
They can sue MLB for suppressing their earnings, arguing that baseball's anti-trust exemption is unconstitutional and that the draft is a violation of their rights.
But that would take a long time and would sacrifice a good portion of the player's career, so it's not worth it. Suck it up and wait for six-year free agency.
I've spent a few months building my draft board! Every time I hear of an interesting prospect (on Twitter, an article, in conversation, etc) I add them to the board. No cramming necessary, except involving the first-year guys.
When in doubt, reference the DDL Trade Map! http://i.imgur.com/MLcFeha.png
Folty is middle-left.
KLaw ranked Holmes as the sixth best draft prospect! Don't be disheartened. One of the best picks of the second round IMO.
Hoffman doesn't really have any leverage though. He won't be able to pitch in time for next year's draft, since Tommy John takes ~14 months to recover from. Teams won't like him as much next year if he turns down our offer, since he'll have rehabbed from TJ without their supervision. It shouldn't take slot.
Matt Kemp didn't made those fancy lists and now he's the best player in the National League. Don't let Dinger push you around, Boxy. Stand by what you believe in.
At this point I have so many guys on my board that I have the opposite reaction when one gets picked lol.
It's hard to differentiate between them. Hitters have tools, may or may not be performing at a low level. Pitchers have stuff but some control issues. If a guy gets popped it makes my job easier.
It went something like this.
Zaun: As we've seen, you can a run and a half to the ERA when NL pitchers switch leagues. It happened with Josh Johnson and it will happen to Samardzija. He throws too much junk, that stuff doesn't work over here.
Bobcat: A run and a half... that's a 4.50 ERA. Good Lord! We don't need that.
