  1. I wouldn't say it's racist. People from adjacent countries generally look similar. It's true.
  2. There's nothing wrong with this, guys. Delabar will get time now to correct his mechanics in Buffalo. The yo-yoing was unfortunate but necessary.
  3. The term is "regression to the mean." We don't need to accommodate the morons who don't understand regression by coming up with a new term.
  4. Yeah I don't know if a warning is the answer. Maybe a PM reminding you to report privately instead of in the thread.
  5. He's not I don't think. They don't want anyone interacting with trolls at all. It's the new strategy since "ban him!" hysteria doesn't work. The trolls love the excitement they generate. Don't engage.
  6. Yeah okay more than that. At least he hasn't been writing opinion pieces recently.
  7. Now that the novelty has worn off the Cotillo kid is starting to get on my nerves.
  8. The official scoring of the Navarro pop-up has him grounding into a fielder's choice. That's... not what happened lol
  9. This is one of those players you have to get ejected over. Get out there again Gibby
  10. I did the Cardinal thing with Piscotty last year. Seems to have worked out alright. I wish I had some prospects to boast about. Hopefully some break out in the second half.
  11. Hall of Famers, yep. I could get behind that. The game's history is a central theme of baseball. Tony Gwynn is an immensely important figure to baseball as a collective, not just the Padres. You don't have to institutionalize the practice and have MLB mandate that teams recognize players though. That would get cheesy. It has to be done in an organic-seeming way.
  12. I'd support TL becoming a moderator. He seems to know his way around a message board and I trust his judgement on mod issues.
  13. Exactly. You're not 'confirmed' to go to school until the signing dealine passes.
  14. lol. I don't mind Smedley/Roark, but what exactly is the point of banning posters if they're just going to come back an hour later with a clean slate of infractions?
  15. I'm very willing to accept changes to a player's true talent level, which can gray the argument. Some players do change and our expectations of them should be altered. That HR pattern isn't out of the ordinary for a random process though. You'd be surprised by how varied events can be distributed! You can get some dice/cards/etc. out and simulate a player's season with a true talent level in mind -- the results will feature long hot and cold stretches despite no human element.
  16. There are just a few types of stats that get on my nerves. Sorry. Feel free to rage about other stuff!
  17. They're subject to HR/FB though, which has a similar effect. Edwin will post a massive (and unsustainable) HR/FB when he goes on a streak. At the same time, he'll also be getting an unusual amount of good pitches to hit and will get lucky with his GB/FB distribution.
  18. Only in hindsight, which defeats the idea of a player being 'hot' or 'cold.' You can't say "this player has hit home runs in each of the past four home runs. Therefore he is more likely than usual to hit a home run here."
  19. I don't believe in hot/cold streaks, so yes. The team not scoring is a byproduct of variance, it doesn't signal anything being wrong with the hitters. Every player plays to their true talent level every night, it just takes a while for the stats to average out to that talent level. The BABIP, HR/FB and event sequencing dragons have depressed the team's runs.
  20. Hopefully they call up Rasmussen. He looked like a decent LOOGY at the very least.
  21. What do you mean by 'struggling' though? It's not like the players you mentioned have experienced a change in talent level. They can be expected to perform as well tomorrow as at any other point in this season. Nothing that's happened in the arbitrary (and small) samples you've provided means anything. Players are who they are. Once you realize this and stop getting hyped up over the stats the media feeds you, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
  22. Keep it up GD. You're 100% right.
