  1. He wasn't actually bad for a prolonged period in the majors before the two years, just an unhyped prospect at an advanced age. You don't have to buy him being a 'changed' player necessarily, just a player who is different from his prospect scouting reports. And very many players are different from their prospect scouting reports. Offer him a seven-year deal with a club option tacked on. 6, 8, 10, 15, 16, 16, 18, (20, 3 buyout)
  2. Ryan Braun's page needs to be re-written
  3. No, because he takes up a whole roster spot and the Blue Jays have a history of deploying a three-man bench for stretches of up to a month. Late inning defense just isn't that valuable either.
  4. There's a decent chance Justin Smoak becomes a useful, ~110 wRC+ bat, that can cheaply fill a role for the Jays in 2015. He switch-hits and can control the strike zone. I don't see the ingredients for a true breakout though. He's always been a low-BABIP guy who doesn't have big natural power. He'd need to fundamentally change to break out and it's hard to count on that.
  5. Defoe leaving was a given though... he checked out a few games into the season lol. Toxic attitude. Here they get a player who should be great in MLS and cash back. Best they could have hoped for.
  6. Yay Jozy Altidore! This is a coup for TFC, right?
  7. That's a waste of Donaldson's power. Saunders is primed for a breakout season. Remember, he won MVP for Pool D in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
  8. Saunders and Reyes are similar OBP guys but Reyes is more dependent on hits, which drive guys in. So bat him behind other guys. Saunders Bautista Martin Encarnacion Donaldson Reyes Smoak Pompey Travis
  9. He suggested the Jays give up Stroman for Dan Duquette lol I don't understand how an old school guy like Buster gets put behind a paywall. There's nothing new/interesting about this article.
  10. Nope. Looking forward to DDL's third season! I don't really have a problem with the day-to-day injury thing. I've just always considered it to be part of fantasy baseball and I doubt Yahoo will institute anything special for this season. Having subjective injury eligibility would be a big project for them and they'd end up fielding criticism regarding why some players qualify and not others. Plus, fantasy baseball has more long-standing and standard rules than hockey. Yahoo probably strives to offer a set of rules and settings that is very similar to ESPN, CBS, etc.
  11. Donaldson and Bautista. Even after factoring in framing I'd have him behind those two.
  12. You'd also open the team up to employing a better backup catcher than Thole... having Thole locked into the roster all season is annoying. Flexibility is good, folks.
  13. Yes? He won't catch for any least 30 games no matter what, but I'd rather they create a more personalized rest schedule than "every five games." Have him sit when he actually expresses that he's wearing down.
  14. Should they sit Bautista regularly because they're scared if he plays too often his temper will get the best of him and sink the team? No. Let the best players play. I think the fact that the Blue Jays have only let Thole catch Dickey has caused the whole catching the knuckleball thing to be overblown. Plenty of catchers in history have adjusted to it just fine. Russell Martin is an elite athlete behind the plate, he'd probably adjust pretty quickly if given the whole spring.
  15. They'd get similar or better production from from the Dan Johnson types they keep Buffalo stocked with. There's no reason to seek Howard out especially. That's what being replacement level means. Kenny Ken is getting defensive on Twitter now... pretty annoying. Sometimes the news-breaking types venture too far into speculation and blog-style writing.
  16. Ryan Howard projects as a below average hitter and can never play the field... I don't see any appeal in him. If he were a free agent I'd consider a minor league deal. Kenny Ken's article is rough to say the least. The mere fact that Howard hits home runs doesn't make him attractive... it's 2015 for goodness sake. Saying he's comparable to Butler and Morales is just wrong.
  17. I hope Boxy has been learning from his mistakes. The series of midseason sell-off trades have pushed his window back for little return. Value verdict aside, this Ryu acquisition shows he's willing to acquire productive Major Leaguers, which I like to see.
  18. I like the trade for NJH. Don't really know how likely Castillo is to pan out fully, but if he hits like the Red Sox believe he can he'll blow by Ryu in value. Even if he half pans out and hits like .250/.320/.435 with 18/15, at 27 years old that's still a highly valuable dynasty outfielder. It's worth the risk for NJH who can definitely stomach losing Ryu and picks up another player whose value could soon skyrocket in Norris. Also, I don't put any stock in the idea that Boxy's pitching is set up long-term now. Projecting any staff far into the future is imprudent and his in particular fields no workhorses and as NJH said, many question marks.
  19. I like the hiring. Rex is a good guy who knows his stuff. Their defense may have already been fine but maybe he can elevate it further and allow them to win more times than not without a great offense. He led a similar cast of characters to two AFC Championship games in his first two years in the Meadowlands.
  20. In my OOTP 15 game, JP retired in 2022 but didn't get much MLB playing time after 2014. Hit a couple home runs in 7 PA for the Marlins in 2019.
  21. Moncada is 19, so he does. Here's an article about the international bonus pool ramifications of Moncada: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/one-big-problem-teams-yoan-moncada/
  22. He is, Moncada is regarded the same way as Guerrero by MLB. He falls under the IFA bonus rules and such. The team that signs him will pay a lot of tax.
  23. In 2014 it was $110/$130, although that's American Dollars, costs a bit more Canadian.
  24. Good point! Forgot about that.
  25. You'd be able to do that. Although when you open the game it starts in the present, so you'd have to shield your screen while you rewind.
