  1. Probably not because if they were, it would be removed.
  2. Copeland was not pitching better than West or Guilmet. They used Albers a single mop-up situation so him being left-handed is irrelevant. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is binding and prevents useful players from being suppressed in the minors for extended periods of time. There is no reason nor expectation for clubs and players to go beyond it with such handshake agreements.
  3. Guilmet and West were claimed off waivers, there was no opportunity for handshake deals to be made. The Blue Jays full controlled them. While I've liked AA's decision-making on the big things recently, we've flushed away plenty of productive pitchers in recent seasons. Also, they could have just not added Andrew Albers and Scott Copeland to the 40-man in the first place. Problem solved.
  4. You've cherrypicked three instances in which these players have been okay over their career. We're talking about their expected production going forward. Do you really think Carrera and Santiago are better than 1 WAR/season players right now? Navarro I can see if framing isn't considered. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with Carrera and Santiago. They're just not exceptional depth and you haven't addressed the pitching.
  5. A league average player produces about two wins over a full season. A reasonable expection for Santiago or Carrera had them much closer to zero wins per full season than two. The point is that if your season is crushed by a couple injury-prone players getting hurt and the back of your roster being bad, you didn't have great depth to begin with. The season isn't over by any stretch, but the Blue Jays were always going to be one of the shallowest teams in baseball.
  6. I don't think it's a bad trade. Nola and Ortiz are fine prospects but clearing prospect space makes sense for you with the draft fast approaching. Odorizzi is the most valuable asset in the deal and he seems to have taken a step forward.
  7. I think Gibbers has to announce which prospect he is cutting before the trade can go through.
  8. Guys, if he's bad enough then the Blue Jays will replace him with someone better like Norris. Him getting lucky isn't necessary a good thing.
  9. On the basis that he's a Blue Jay. You're not going to get a logical response out of him.
  10. The Kimbrel trade may been been even worse. Just oozed with bad process.
  11. It feels like he hasn't got a hit in a month..... ughh
  12. The Howies are Indians fans.
  13. How many times have you seen Hoffman pitch?
  14. Why do you want Tillman to work? He's worse than their bullpen.
  15. His velocity is creeping back to normal though: http://www.fangraphs.com/fgraphs/6483_P_SI_20150511.png He just needs to regroup and trust his stuff.
  16. You can break a game down into partial wins and losses. Assigning whole wins and losses to individual players based on the team's performance is silly. By that logic, I haven't cost the Blue Jays in terms of wins and losses either. Does that mean I've pitched okay? Players should not be assigned outcomes they had little control over.
  17. You're looking at a pitcher's role wrong. This pitcher can not get lucky here because there is no reason to assign runs allowed to him. He does cost his team in wins and losses if he walks 5 batters and strikes out none. If there are no runs allowed, it is because the defence and various random effects conspired to earn back the value that the pitcher cost his team. The pitcher's role in run prevention is primarily the accumulation of strikeouts and ground balls and limiting of walks.
  18. Kendrick's start ended up getting scratched too because of the postponement yesterday, although it wouldn't have made a difference. Congratulations on beating me and ending the streak.
  19. David Robertson with a Sunday special. Screws Danks out of a win, maneuvers himself into one. ughh
  20. Encarnacion's Off WAR is -2.7 and Valencia is at 2.1. Do you want to shed any light on that? There's nothing to say. We're barely a month into the season.
