spending 105-120M and not having to give up any prospects is not the worst thing that could happen this off season. it's a crap shoot, but so is any trade you make and trades cost assets you never get back. you can make more money

I know there are some pundits who blow rainbows out of a unicorn's ass with prospect projection and use projection to "subjectively" rank the prospects. when it comes to the jays, the more time a player has to spend in the minors, the greater the chance they get screwed up. If we had the Rays farm system I would put more stock in long distance projections. Jays system washes out more ball players than any of us want to know about.

top prospect is not the player in the system with the highest potential ceiling. it is the the player who is closest to being a top impact player in the Major league team. Stroman could walk onto the mound the first game of the year and be one of the teams best starters. Sanchez is probably 2 years away. come on peeps....be real

puzzles are great brain work, but they take up too much room because I wont even do one that's under 2000 pieces. Last one I did was 10k. it was a ship on the ocean. it was a lot of blue and white.

considering that Morrow has never completed a full season as a starter the jays are going to be in trouble if that's all they have. I think Stroman has a chance to be in the rotation fairly early in the season, but he's doesn't have a full season under his belt either. so basically it's Dickey and Buerhle.... yikes!

it's exactly the kind of guy AA should be penciling in when the chance comes. if AA can sign a long term asset that doesn't cost more than cash, it's a win win. Since AA has not shown that he can compete with other teams when these kinds of players have come into the market, I highly doubt the jays pick him up, no matter how much sense it makes.

if they can get better starting pitching, a glove first second baseman might be enough.

exactly... this move is a Goins promotion. at least he wont be playing kick ball at second like Bumfiasco last year.

Rasmus is about as old school as there is in the league when it comes to going into second to break up the DP. he slides late and hard, but clean and that's they way the game is supposed to be played. the only collision I have a problem with at home plate is when the runner is out by ten feet and his only chance is to cream the catcher. that needs to be taken away, but if the ball and runner get there at the same time... not so much. reducing "unnecessary" contact is fine. as I've suggested before, calculate a safe distance (for example 10ft) draw a line at 10 feet and say that if the catcher has full control of the ball before the runner crosses the "safety" line, the runner is not allowed to run the catcher over. the runner can still try to slide and get to the plate but not bulldoze the catcher. if the catcher is blocking without the ball, simply call the play dead and call obstruction like the rule in place already says they should. if the runner goes out of his way to tackle the catcher he is out. if the catcher doesn't leave room for the runner to get to the plate it's on his ass for being stupid. learn a swipe tag son!

you'd have to give a few players, who most people dont want to see gone, to get Trout and that's where the problem comes into the scenario. Jays dont have any one player who is a huge chip to trade. any deal to bring in a top tier player will create more holes. AA and Beeston put the team in a bad spot with last off seasons trades.

because when you are crossing home plate you are crossing and not stopping. once you touch home you are safe if they drop the ball. guys do get spiked if they position themselves wrong at second and third. SS and second basemen get taken out regularly to try to stop the double play. Rasmus was one of the best in the league last year when it came to taking out the D at second. not dirty at all, just a clean hard slide and that's the way it has to be played.
