Is Daulton Varsho a Fit for the Houston Astros?

While the Toronto Blue Jays are not out of the playoff picture by any means, they could look to do a soft sell at the trade deadline and move some expiring contracts to retool for 2027.

Daulton Varsho is one of those expiring contracts, and Chandler Rome of The Athletic is reporting that the "[Houston] Astros focus at the trade deadline is a left-handed hitting outfielder." If the Blue Jays don't find any prospects that strike their fancy, the Astros do have more left-handed relievers than one bullpen realistically needs. This could allow the Blue Jays to deal from the Major League roster while also bolstering another position group for a playoff push. However, their bullpen isn't necessarily in need of more southpaws, either.

Varsho has been a little underwhelming this year, slashing .242/.309/.398 this year with just seven home runs and seven stolen bases across 79 games.

I'd move Varsho rather than lose him for nothing. Straw and him not much difference between them. Clase becomes 4th outfielder

Theres about 20 points of wRC+ between them, and thats with Varsho slumping with the stick

There's a massive difference between the two offensively

That's nil considering Varsho will return piece we need. He only has a WAR of 1. Not hard to replace . Varsho will get big contract also. Let's another bat on roster too. Probably Clase, Gloves are about same. 

Move Varsho and Giminez frees up 35 million for a star.

None of that is being argued except that there's no difference between Straw and Varsho, when it takes all of 5 seconds to see there is. 

If your argument is that playing Straw vs Varsho for the rest of the season makes little difference to the record the Jays will have at the end if the season and of course getting something in return for Varsho is better than letting him walk for nothing.. thats a different conversation. But to say there's no difference between them as players is just wrong.
