hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 It's just a simple platoon situation. Varsho and KK still play the OF vs RHP, Whit and 2b. Vs lefties, Whit goes the left and DeJong plays second, Varsho sits more often, but will probably get the occasional look in CF if KK needs a day. I would do that, DeJong has really good hitting splits
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Anyone know the defensive splits comparing Varsho and Merrifield in LF vs Dejong and Merrifield at 2nd. Which combos gave more defensive value? Either way I assume Espi is AAA bound soon?

It's much better in concern of Dejong in the lineup over Espy or Biggio, Dejong was a solid get and should be good in consideration when Bo comes back. Right now he'll be a decent filler, and he hits LHP well. His D is far superior than the latter. It's a good fit. Jays have done quite well this deadline, 3 better RP's a filler for Bo in an unfortunate timing of his injury. Lets get it.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Wonder if Paul DeJong is kept around in 2024 as a 2B or 3B option. Considering the weak market for 3B, might be a possibility.

wamco Verified Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I read he doesn’t have the arm strength for 3b. This year you can pay 2m to void his last 2 years of his contract. Not sure if 2025 (15m) is guaranteed when you pick up 2024( 12.5m)
